POV HOPE
H: - No, it won't happen.
P: - Ms. Mikaelson, you need to participate in the play if you want to pass the subject.
H: - I can be from the production, everyone who doesn't work is from the production.
P: - I would greatly appreciate your help with the production, but we need a supporting cast.
H: - I don't want to stage Shakespeare, especially this play. So no, I'm out.
P: - If you don't get the role, you'll fail, last chance.
L: - She accepts. - Lizzie butted in the conversation.
H: - No, she doesn't.
L: - Don't worry, professor, you will have a Tybalt.
P: - Thank you, Ms. Saltzman. - He said before leaving.
H: - Lizzie, I hope you have a plan to find a Tybalt, because I'm not going to be in this stupid play.
L: - Look how bad you are because of your breakup with Landon, we all know, but it won't spoil the play, not this one.
H: - How does not participate harm your performance as Juliet?
L: - First, I won't be Juliet. Second, I'm giving you the chance to kill Landon, and third, it's going to be a special piece.
I looked at her not quite understanding what that meant, she had a smile of satisfaction and pride in herself so I decided to ask just to be sure.
H: - Could it be clearer? I mean, we're done, but I'm not going to kill him for it.
L: - I know, Hope. But I pulled my strings so he got the Mercucio role. Do you know...
H: - Tybalt kills Mercucio. Okay, I'm starting to like this.
L: - Yeah, I thought so.
H: - Wait, if you're not going to play Juliet, who is?
L: - My twin beautifully in love. And, look, Finch is going to be Romeo.
I stared at her for a moment and said:
H: - Defying patriarchy one piece at a time, I liked it. - He said smiling.
L: - Actually, you and Landon being apart helped a lot to convince the teacher that they would be the best couple for the play, so thank you.
H: - Yeah, it seems like our breakup was the best thing for a lot of people.
L: - Don't start. Rehearsal is in 20 minutes, don't be late.
Then she left. And there I was, pissed off at Landon, pissed off at the arts subject, and pissed off at Shakespeare for writing a goddamned cliché play about how tragic and sickeningly romantic a doomed relationship is, like I didn't know that. I stopped by my room to change and went to the gym, the rehearsal would be there after all. When I arrived, everyone was already there, including Landon. After we broke up, we were trying to spend as much time as possible without seeing each other, zero verbal contact and a goddamn urge to be close, at least I had.
P: - Great, just in time, Ms. Mikaelson. Let's rehearse the scene of the duel between Tybalt and Mercucio. To the center, please. No lines, just movements.
Landon and I walked to the center of the gym and grabbed the swords. If I had to be in that play, I could at least take out my frustration and anger at him on himself.
LANDON POV
Breaking up with Hope on the eve of playing Romeo and Juliet was bad enough, but having to stay at school because I had nowhere to go or not knowing what to look for to keep her from getting hurt in the process of killing Malivore was even more frustrating. She hated me, I let her hate me if it meant her safety. It was hard to see her and have to keep my distance, now I had no choice. Months ago, a swordfight rehearsal against Hope would have scared me, but that wasn't the case now. We headed downtown and started. What little I taught myself to protect myself was coming in handy. I don't think there's a weapon Hope doesn't know how to use, you'd think she'd be a great fencer. What I didn't expect was that she would take the task of trying to hit me with her sword so seriously. Good thing they were made of wood. I defended her attacks from above and, in a spin, she tried to hit my head, as if to cut her throat. I dodged in time and attacked his legs. She jumped fast and we continued at that pace, she attacked and I defended. Almost two minutes passed like that, I could see the rest of the staff watching with interest, waiting for the moment when she would hit me. That's when our swords crossed bringing us face to face closer than we've been lately. Her eyes sparkled, as always when she was struggling, she even smiled before we faced each other. We were trying hard, I didn't want to give in, so she said:
