(Third POV)
Natasha couldn't sleep. She had spent an hour tossing and turning, staring up at her bare ceiling, picking loose threads from the hem of her t-shirt. Something was bothering her, she just couldn't put her finger on what it was.
The accompanying patter of rain was comforting, mixed with the gentle flow of moonlight baring itself through the cracks in the blinds. At this moment her world was at peace, yet she was still burdened with unidentifiable anxieties.
She decided to get up. To adventure out into the silence of the compound at night, in search of something... maybe even someone. She wasn't sure, but the sight of the time on her alarm clock creeping towards dawn was making her feel worse.
This routine felt familiar to her. Sleepless nights were something common to her, the comfort she lost when she tossed her covers aside, the feeling of her bare feet colliding with the cold wood floor, grabbing her hoodie, or well Steve's hoodie, from the chair in her room and leaving. It was all familiar. Too familiar.
She tried her best to be quiet out of respect for her sleeping teammates, though the soft, dim light emitting from the common area was a clear sign someone was up. Most likely Wanda.
She decided to head to the kitchen before disturbing whoever was awake. She needed a drink, and she wouldn't be a very good friend if she didn't get the other person one. Dr Pepper it was. She grabbed two cans in hopes it was Wanda. Dr Pepper was one of the younger girls favourite drinks.
Taking in a slow, anxious breath, she grabbed the cans and quietly made her way to the entrance of the common area to find exactly who she had guessed.
Natasha's eyes slowly followed the outline of the figure resting on the couch. The soft shimmer from the moonlight, and hue of colours from the TV were causing her to glow. She looked ethereal.
She watched as Wanda's tried eyes pulled away from the TV to meet hers. Her delicate features looked fragile in this moment, as though she was made of glass. Soft lips pulling upward to form a kind and honest smile.
"Natasha" Wanda beamed up at her. She excitedly patted a spot beside her on the couch and pulled out a second Xbox controller. Natasha hadn't even noticed she'd been holding one.
Wary about disturbing her peace, Natasha sent her a small, shy smile back and quietly made her way to sit beside the younger girl.
"What are you playing?" She asked, handing Wanda a can, and watching her face light up at the small gesture.
"Minecraft" she motioned her arms towards the screen slightly. "Peter introduced me to it. He taught me how to complete the game, but he thought I'd enjoy it more for the creativity it allows, the pretty landscapes, and of course, the animals" she explained further, giggling lighty towards the end.
Natasha focused her attention to the screen as she watched Wanda travel through a forest, collecting flowers.
"Ah, I've heard of it, but never played it. Haven't really had the chance" Natasha turned her gaze back to Wanda, giving her a slightly saddened smile.
"Here. No time like the present" Wanda handed Natasha the second controller she had pulled out.
She watched in amusement at the sight of Natasha struggling to join the game.
"Let me show you" Wanda's hand hesitantly reached for the controller.
Natasha watched in awe as the younger girl managed it with ease.
"It was that easy? Now I just feel stupid" Wanda giggled at Natasha's small outburst.
"Not stupid, just uneducated. This is a new experience for you" she tried her best to reassure Natasha.
