8 More Lives

My mind slowly faded back to the world. I woke up to the sound of light snoring. I started moving around on the bed and felt a body under me. I freaked out and rolled back over to see that it was only Matrix. I got up to open and it was light! I grabbed my phone and checked the time. 7:26?! I ran down the hallway lightning fast and realized everybody else was asleep. I guess we weren't going to school? Suddenly, everything that happened yesterday flooded my mind. My heart sank and I just walked back to bed. I crawled over Matrix back to my side and cuddled up with a pillow. Im not going to school, I decided. Yea I know, Im missing the second day of school. Not smart, but if they knew the news I heard yesterday they would understand. I laid in bed for 15 minutes trying to go back to sleep but I just couldn't. I went through all my photos and saw a few with my mom and dad in them. Of course, the weren't the most enthusiastic parents, but they did everything they needed to for me. I jumped out of bed suddenly with a strange burst of energy. I grabbed a sweatshirt from pink and shorts quietly and changed. I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and do my hair. I didn't feel like wearing makeup so I finished quickly and walked out to see Matrix on her phone. She didn't say anything and neither did I. I didn't need to. I walked out the front door and immediately shifted into a wolf. I walked down the sidewalk like nothing mattered. Nobody was watching me anyway, I would know. Suddenly I felt a presence above me. I looked up right as Splice jumped out if the window. She landed like nothing happened and walked along side me.
"Grrrrr."
"You look like a stray dog. Lucky people aren't smart enough to know the difference between a wolf and dog. Thank me."
I growled in frustration but shook it off. She started to pet me and I looked at her like what even. I sped up my pace so she would stop but she just kept coming right back. We walked to the park and I saw a squirrel. In this form I could eat a raw animal and it would be good but of course Im not going to do that! Just for fun, I ran up to the squirrel while it was facing away and howled. A screech came from it and it ran away. Splice shook her head at me and I walked over to her and sat on the bench with her.
"I have to tell you something," Splice said nervously. I looked up at her with puppy eyes.
"I was texting Joseph last night and he asked if I like dogs and I said yea and he said he loves them and asked if I had one and I really wanted to impress him so I said yes!" Splice said quickly but stumbling a lot. My ears pricked up and my eyes became a slit. I looked up at her and bared my teeth.
"I need you to do this for me please Jinx...Jayce." She said pleading me. I turned my head and saw four slackers from our school that ditch a lot, as told from Matt. I started to snuggle with Splice while she pet me like a normal dog and it's owner. I noticed the slackers whispering and throwing glances at Splice. They slowly started walking over and I growled at them with a menacing face. One of them just laughed, the one at the front. The others stopped in their tracks. The leader turned around and flicked his head forward telling them to get Splice. They speak like dogs, but so do I. Right as they ran for Splice I jumped out at the leader and cut his shoulder. I was standing on him while he was laying on the floor and I growled as terrifying as I could. One slacker ran away and the others backed.
"What kind of dog is that holy shit," one of them said in panic. I slowly turned my head toward him and walked to him the way a wolf would walk to their prey. He fumbled his friends arm and they both turned away in a sprint. I turned around to Splice walking right by me.
"I could have handled them myself," Splice murmured as she headed back home. I padded up to her and had my tongue out of my mouth. She looked down into my joy-filled puppy dog eyes. She smiled and looked forward.
"Yea, that was cool."
"I might as well should have let them have you," I said. Yea I can talk. I just choose not too. She looked at me with that "how could you" face.
"You wouldn't have to go through as much pain as when Im done with you," I said jokingly talking about what I have to do for her so she can snag Joseph. She smirked and chuckled.
"I would still have eight lives to spare then."
