A WEEK HAD passed since Riven and Circe parted.
And she didn't know about Riven, but Circe had not been dealing with it. If anyone asked, she'd lie and say she was fine. She didn't need him. But she was slowly crumbling on the inside, and it made her feel weak she could do nothing to stop it. Nothing to stop her heart still beating for him, regardless of his words.
Perhaps it was the knowledge that Riven thought he didn't deserve love, that he needed to prove himself worthy and keep her out of harm's way, even if it meant sacrificing himself and his values. Yet it still pained Circe. Hurt her the way she no longer knew where he was, or what he was doing.
And Circe didn't have that many people to confide in with the truth. No one else knew that Riven had joined Rosalind. She didn't know how to break it to them. The Winx Suite were off for the term break visiting Bloom's adoptive parentsm making Circe squirm in jealousy. She so desperately wanted to have parents to return home to.
It was early morning, and Circe had been tossing and turning all night, without being able to catch a wink of sleep. Fragmented memories haunted her of her and Riven. Not being able to handle it anymore, she tiptoed out of her shared bedroom, making sure not to wake up either Echo or Briar before heading outside.
Breathing in the fresh morning air, slightly sneezing at the freshly cut grass, Circe recognised the figure of her brother in the distance. Wanting to push her thoughts to the back-burner of her mind, she approached him, taking a seat next to him.
"Already missing your girlfriend?" Circe teased, breaking the silence.
Blushing, Sky scratched the back of his neck. "Shut up, you're one to talk. I haven't seen you and Riven around lately, cooped up in your bedrooms."
Circe's smile faltered, pulling her gaze away as she played with the sleeves of her jacket. She couldn't believe she hadn't told her half-brother yet, but she guessed there was no better time than the present. "Sky . . . me and Riv broke up."
There was a slight pause of silence as Sky frowned, processing the information. Then, it all happened rather quickly ─ he stood up, anger clouding his judgement as he clenched his fists. "Oh, I'm going to kill him. What did he do? Wait, I don't want to know. It's probably far worse than anything I could imagine."
"Sky, stop." Circe pulled his sleeve, and the soft yet tired tone in her voice made Sky look down to his sister in worry. "I . . . I broke up with him. I just didn't love him."
The lie that escaped Circe was brutal, and she didn't mean any word of it. But telling her brother the truth . . . she couldn't handle that yet. Perhaps it was easier to have him believe her lie. Sky hesitated, unconvinced as his blue eyes searched her face. Circe tried her best to look impassive, yet she didn't know if she convinced him or not as Sky slumped, looking away.
"I'm sorry to hear, Circe. Are you okay?"
Unable to answer the question sincerely, the young blonde deviated the subject topic towards him. "I could ask you the same thing. Have you been sleeping? You've got terrible dark circles." she teased him, but as she watched Sky hesitate, Circe frowned. "What is it? You can tell me anything."
"Do you remember the whole Aster Dell story?" when Circe nodded, Sky had to open and shut his mouth several times before continuing. "Turns out our father and your mother led the attack. Silva tried to stop them, and in a fight . . . he killed dad."
"He what?"
"I know." sighed Sky. "I'm still conflicted about it too."
A million thoughts spun around in Circe's head. Sky watched her, awaiting her reaction. Circe didn't feel angry, or sad . . . she wasn't sure what to feel. Perhaps it was for the best that she didn't have her parents around, if they actually did lead the attack. Before she could say anything, Sky was focusing his gaze on the distance.
"What are the Solarians doing here? The attack was over days ago."
With a shrug, Circe followed her brother as the black cars rolled in. Silva was standing near the entrance, and Circe found she couldn't bear to look at him. What she needed was time to organise her thoughts. Time that she did not have.
Various soldiers climbed out of the car as the two siblings awatched curiously, before Queen Luna dismounted and approached Silva. "With a heavy heart, I must place you, Silva, under arrest for the attempted murder of Andreas of Eraklyon."
Circe and Sky shared a confused look. "Attempted?"
Another car door opened, and out climbed the person Circe least expected. "Holy shi- dad? Talk about plottwist of the year."
Andreas smiled amused, pulling his gaze away from his daughter unto Sky. "Hello, Sky. Circe."
"Don't forget me!" a shrill voice followed Andreas, making Circe's eyes widen as she took a step forward. Following her father was a tall, blonde woman, with sharp cheekbones and dark eyes that pierced your soul. A smirk was placed on her lips as she readjusted her tight dress, eyes focusing on Circe before approaching her. "My dear daughter . . . you look just like me."
"Mum?"
and that's the end folks! until season 2 of course. so reminder that sky and circe only share father, not mother, so this last reveal of circe's mother is just her other, not sky's
i apologize for the lack of interaction between circe and riven, as you'll have to wait for season 2. thank you everyone for all the support, and i hoped to enjoyed this crazy ride. hope to see you soon following circe's adventures!
