A/N I realized when writing this chapter that this should've been the 1st chapter. Well, too late.
Or maybe not. But I planned Toshiro to be the main character in this but I honestly don't know.
.........I have been not paying attention to this story much that I almost forgot what I'd like to write but I'm trying to continue this. I honestly have no idea what to write, the ones I have are set in few more chapters where certain characters would eventually come in contact. But at the start... eh...
He remembered the humiliating defeat he suffered from the hands of the quincy Cang Du. Even if he try to comfort his self that it's because he got his bankai stolen he still felt weak. The bankai that every shinigami dream of achieving was meant to be a last resort and the ultimate trump card but here he's using it in every battle and bitterly lose most of the time. He then vowed to get stronger, not only have a stronger shikai and bankai, but strong even not using it.
He felt the wind blow and a presence of something solid, and sharp. A slash came to his side, he dodged instinctively but that still ripped his left sleeve open.
"You're spacing out again."
Toshiro looked up at the hulking figure of the captain of the 11th who rested his zanpakuto on his shoulder, looking both worried and annoyed at him.
They're sparring in the 10th Division grounds to set aside their thoughts from stress which is paperwork that they're drowned in. Well, maybe not Kenpachi. But it's setting their minds aside nonetheless. They knew that the Captain of the 10th did nothing but paperwork since they last met, barely sparing any time to even eat a full meal and thus, they decided to crash and pulled him out of his office for a little spar. But the fight setting they've created bring back other memories.
"Sorry" he let his head down, lowering the blade of his zanpakuto. He can't help thinking of his failures when he pass by the destruction of their latest war especially when he recognize the places where he fought and seeing all the dead and injured bodies.
"Don't apologize, damn it." Kenpachi grunted. He look at him annoyed.
Those eyes.... ah, Yes. He can't even do something as simple as focus and instead be distracted by the flashes of the recent war. No wonder the battle loving captain of the 11th get annoyed by being robbed of a fight.
"I just..." he took a deep breath. He can't even do something as simple as brush it off. "I mean we almost died—"
"Ugh, we already talked about this shit."
"I mean I was pronounced dead." Byakuya who's sitting at the side, reading a book propped in his left hand, commented.
"Fuck you Byakuya, you're really not helping." Kenpachi thought. He snarled at the noble. "Dang it, Kuchiki, don't add anything to the drama!"
Byakuya shrugged, not taking off his eyes on the book. "Deal with it"
"Fuck you"
"I'm too weak"
"Ugh"
"It's better for me to step down as a captain."
"Ah shit here we go again."
"Cause I'm just a kid after all."
This caught the attention of the two older captains, their concerns increasing by the second. Hitsugaya has always has a complex on his height and age always getting mad at people who pointed that out. But here he is, talking about it out loud.
Kenpachi shot a look to the captain of the 6th, with a message of 'You motherfucking made it worse'. Byakuya without needing to have Kenpachi's look at him, felt a bit of guilt. These words Hitsugaya muttered has also run through him as well. He lost and almost died, and was pronounced dead but miraculously managed to survive. It may not appear so but from time to time he doubts his own abilities, that he may be weak. Especially in the presence of someone stronger than him or edge stronger. But he learned that if that is the case then he must put an effort in getting stronger.
