Waking up that morning, I was sore in every part of my body. It was my last day as a free spirit. After today, I'd have to go back to school for the start of my junior year. Tommy just started his senior year, and already knew what he wanted to be. I should probably do the same.

My leg was burning, but I just ignored it. I didn't need any set backs or road blocks today. Today was the last day I would be able to go and investigate the strange occurrences going on in my house in the afternoon. Now I'd be home by two and have homework and tests and quizzes and more stress. If I did go and visit the police station as frequently as I did, on school days, I'd be there by 4 if not later. Some days will be tiring, and stressful which would also be a huge interruption. I'm not lazy, and I've never been lazy. I've just always had a lot on my mind. No day is a free day for me.

I got dressed and hopped on my bike, then left. I ran inside the police department doors. "Mr. F?" I called. He came out eating a big bag of popcorn. Unusual, but I ignored it. "Wanna watch a movie?" He asked. I shook my head no. "You're a cop, evil awaits." I said. "Not today, I took the whole day off because Tommy told me tomorrow is your last day here until weekends. Tommy's here too." I smiled at him. It was really sweet, I guess I could take a break from the cases. He took my smile as a yes. "I'm going to go get Tommy, you wait here." He went back into his office.

We all got into the car, and Mr. Forester gave me a blindfold. "Put this on." I placed the blindfold over my head and tied a knot in the back. "Where are we going?" I asked as Mr. Forester started the car. "You'll see."

Tommy helped me out of the car. I felt sunlight warming my face. He pulled the blindfold off. In front of me was this beautiful stream. It was surrounded by green trees, and the sun danced over the lime green glass. The bushes were covered in all brightly colored flowers. The river was as blue as could be, it was all amazing. "Woah, what is this place?" I asked astonished by the wonderful landscape. Mr. Forester leaned up against the tree that had a tire swing dangling from the branch. "This is the place I met that knuckle heads grandmother." He said pointing to Tommy. "This is the place his mother played when she was younger. It's where she told me she was pregnant with him. Its where she got married. It's where he used to play when he was a toddler." I smiled. "That's so cute." Tommy put his arm around me. "This place has a bad side too. " Tommy pointed to a black mini van on the side of the river. "This is where my parents died, and where they're buried." I looked at the little mini van, it was so sad. Mr. Forester lit a cigarette. We looked at him. "I'm not going over there. "You guys can go check it out alone, to many bad memories. ." He said. "There's a lot of good ones too." I debated, but it was no use. He shooed us away.

Tommy led me over the bridge that brought us to the other side of the river. I couldn't get across without remembering what had happened yesterday. I felt like there was someone under it, just waiting to grab my foot. But I eventually made it across, and I was fine. Although my leg was burning like it had been for the past hour, I just kept walking.

We kneeled besides the little mini van. "Where's Mrs. Forester?" I asked, it had been eating my insides since I had first met Tommy. "She's in jail. That's why he likes you so much." Tommy said. I was confused. "What?" "He likes you because you remind him of his daughter, my mom." I smiled.

"Aleece, can I tell you something?" Tommy asked grabbing my hands and leaning up against the hood of the dirty old car. I nodded. He took a breath."My mom had me when she was 15." He said, letting his breath go. I shrugged. "So what? What's so wrong with that?" I asked, confused again. "I don't know, it's just that a lot of times people don't..." He paused and stuttered his words. I gripped his hands. "I know what you're trying to say." He smiled at me, and I loved seeing his smile. It never made me feel okay seeing him upset. I had only seen him upset a few times, but every time it felt like a knife in my heart. He hugged me after a few moments of silence. When we pulled away from each other, we looked each other in the eyes. His gorgeous blue eyes looked like the river. We kissed, but right before we kissed, I knew he was the one for me.

We spent the whole day looking at the blue sky, and splashing each other with river water, and just talking about life. Me and Tommy were sitting with our feet dangling over the river below us. The pain in my lower leg was really getting to me. I pulled my foot out of the water and put it up on the grass. "What's wrong?" Tommy asked. "I don't know I've just had this pain in my leg all day." I replied. I rolled up my jeans to my knee.

My leg was covered in dry blood, and the numbers 666 were carved into the skin.
