I took a deep breath and began to read. “My dear sweet Casey, if you are reading this, it means I failed in my task to protect you. I know you have a lot of unanswered questions, and soon you’ll find the answers. The main question you probably have is: What’s really going on? I can’t go into detail, but just know that we are in danger, and so is everybody we are close to. I’m sorry that I can’t explain any further; just know that I love you. I wish I could have warned you in advance, but I could never find the right time to explain. Just promise me that you’ll find somewhere safe to stay, and to never come back. I’ll try to contact you as soon as I can, I promise you. Stay safe, my lovely daughter. I’ll always love you. Love, mom.”

“Wow…” Aide said. “I don’t even know what to say.”

“This is so screwed up. I feel like I’m living a nightmare.” I said, laying my head against the headrest on the seat.

“You basically are.” Jake said in a sweet, apologetic voice.

“Seriously, what am I gonna do?” I asked, mainly to myself.

“I don’t know, but we’ve got your back,” Mel said. “We’re here for you, always.”

“Thanks, guys.” I said, not really knowing what to think about the whole situation. “Where are we, anyway?”

“We’re about four miles out of Bancroft.” Jake said. “Where are we going to go?”

“Someplace where those creepy guys won’t look, maybe out of state?” Mel asked.

“I don’t think we have to go out of state, we just have to go far enough away that they can’t find us, maybe Dixie?” Aide asked. We all thought about what she had said.

“Well, there isn’t any reason why we would go to Dixie, so it might work.” I said. “How far away is it?”

“It is 100 miles from Bancroft, we we’ve got about 95 miles left,” Jake said, looking at the GPS in the car that showed we had gone one more mile since he had said four.

“Sounds good to me,” Aide said. “Do we have the gas?”

“I just put gas in it after I came home from work last night,” Jake said.

“Dixie, here we come.” Mel said. We drove in silence for the next couple of hours, which was weird because when the three of us were together, there was always something to talk about. After about 10 more minutes of silence, my phone vibrated, telling me I had a text message. I flipped it open to see the screen, which showed that the text came from Aide. As I looked back at her and saw her nod her head at me, Jake asked who it was.

“Oh, nobody important,” I said as I opened the text.

Whats goin on between u 2? I think he likes u ;)said the text message.

I don’t know what you are talking aboutis what I said replied, and then I flipped the phone shut.

            “Uh oh,” Mel said.

            “What’s wrong?”  Jake asked.

“Look behind us.” We all looked, except for Jake, who kept his eyes on the road.

“It’s them.” I said, barely even a whisper. “It’s the same black car.”

“As soon as we hit the interstate, we have to get in front of all these cars.” Mel said. It took five minutes to get to the interstate. Once we hit the lane where we could pass, Jake pressed on the gas petal. When we switched back over to the right lane, he made sure that there wasn’t enough room for the Porsche to pull in behind us. As we made our way towards the end of the interstate, we pulled into the lane that led to the exit. Aide looked behind us.

“I don’t see them,” she said.

            “I don’t either,” Mel added

“We still need to keep going,” Jake replied.

“I don’t get it. How could they have found us?” I asked.

“They must have seen us in the park and followed close behind.” Aide said.

“Well at least they are gone now,” I replied.

“For now,” Jake said. “But we have to keep going.”
