Tears in the rain

The tears that rolled mercilessly down the ice coloured dragon's cheeks, mixed into the rain. Winter didn't try to stop them as he sat below the rolling clouds on a bed of green moss. The stars peeked out from behind the clouds. I deserve this don't I? Of course he left, no one would ever want to stick around with me here. It's not like I care.. Against the Icewing's silent wishes, the tears kept falling. The rain pelted harder against Winter's scales, turning into tiny icicles at the touch, but he couldn't feel it. It's not like they had been friends or anything, but that didn't stop Winter from feeling inevitably sombre.

Quiet wingbeats sounded from behind the sulking Icewing, Winter was lost in thought so he didn't hear the emerald green dragon coming to his aid. He straightened himself as Turtle sat beside him. Winter clenched his jaw in attempt to forge his usual frown, but Turtle must've noticed because he placed a concerned talon on his shoulder. Winter instinctively shoved the Seawing's talon off, and shot him a glare. Turtle seemed undaunted by this and proceeded to look empathetic towards the grumpy Icewing. "It's ok to be sad you know," Turtle reassured. Winter growled, "I am not sad" The space around them lit up as Turtle illuminated some of the scales along his head. Winter sighed. Its not like I miss him.. Winter bit his tongue, not trusting that he could stay silent.

Turtle had an odd comfortable aura surrounding him. Winter would never admit it, but the Seawing's company was rather comforting. The Icewing blew out a small spiral of ice, and watched it melt into the sky. Turtle's voice broke the silence, "You should rest, we have a big flight ahead of us tomorrow."  Winter flicked a rock aside with his tail. He's right, and he doesn't look like he'll give up soon anyway.  Winter stood up, although he knew he wouldn't get a wink of sleep.

Winter wordlessly leaped into the sky, spreading his wings. The soft wingbeats behind him were barely audible amidst the howling wind and raging rain. The Icewing swept into his sleeping cave silently. His last thoughts before collapsing onto his stone ledge were of a certain blue seawing and how she would react tomorrow when her students didn't show up for their classes. He closed his eyes with a small smile.
