The Mystery Dungeon

Chapter 2:   

      "WAKE UP!" shouted Exploud the next morning.

     "Ouch, my ears. I didn't think they would wake us up by yelling at us," Pikachu complained. "Let's go have breakfast downstairs, Charmander."

     "Well since this is your first mission, I will explain to you what happens," Chatot said. "Once you enter a dungeon, you are in an area of different rooms and passageways. You can collect certain items from the ground in the room, and battle wild pokemon. If you or your partner faints in a dungeon, you will be immediately transported back to the guild: that is a rule I added. However if you fail, you will not be allowed to eat dinner with the others," Chatot explained.

     "What?! We don't eat if we fail?" Pikachu said surprised.

     "Quit your whining! If you want to eat dinner so much, then just try to succeed in your mission!" Chatot yelled. "Anyway, when you see a staircase, climp up or down it to travel to the following floor. If you clear a dungeon, you will be rewarded dinner. If you complete a mission, depending on how difficult it is, you will recieve an award and dinner. It may be an item(s), or it could be prize money. In some certain missions, your task is to defeat a wanted criminal pokemon that is somewhat stronger than a regular wild pokemon," said Chatot.

     "Also, every time you complete a mission, you are awarded a certain amount of ranking points depending on the difficulty of the mission. If you get enough of these particular points, you can increase a rank. Every pokemon starts out at ameteur rank. The next rank is Intermediate Rank, then Bronze Rank, then Silver Rank, and finally Gold Rank," Chatot explained. "Well now that you have been informed about missions, get to work!"

     "I am so excited! We are going to start our first mission today!" Pikachu said jovially. "You can go to the Job Bulletin Board to look for a mission to complete."

     Charmander walked towards the Job Bulletin Board and examined it. There were two jobs available. The first one read; "Please find my lost Pecha Berry. It's located in Beach Cave, on B2. Reward: Oran Berry & 50 Pokedollars. Difficulty level: F."

     The second one read; "Help me! A Crobat stole all of my items! It's located in Corphish Rock, on 7F. Reward: 5,000 Pokedollars. Difficulty Level: B."

     "Well I doubt that we are prepared to fight a wanted outlaw yet, even if the reward is five thousand Pokedollars. So let's do job one in Beach Cave," said Charmander.

     "Okay let's go to Beach Cave," Pikachu agreed. "To enter a dungeon, go out of the guild and down the stairs. Once you are at the intersection, go to the right to choose a destination to travel to. The main part of town is to the left of the intersection if you want to go to the shops," Pikachu explained. "However, Beach Cave is to the west of town so you will have to travel through Poke-Central and then enter Beach Cave." They walked through town and went to Krabby Beach.

     "Well, this is it. Since I don't have any items or money, I won't go back to town," Charmander thought. They entered Beach Cave.

     Charmander looked around. There were many passageways with wild pokemon and rooms with many items. "Amazing!" Pikachu enthusiastically said. "Well Chatot said to look for the stairs leading to the next floor, so lets look around." Charmander started to walk forward and entered a large room filled with items. "Wow! You can collect all of these items and put them in your treasure bag. However, the bag can only hold six items until it is full," said Pikachu.

     Charmander picked up an Oran Berry, an Apple, two Geo-Pebbles, a Pecha Berry, and three Pokedollars until a wild Diglett level 1 attacked with Scratch. Charmander lost 10 HP and remained with 10 HP. "Ouch!" Charmander said.

     "Remember you can restore twenty health points by eating an Oran Berry," said Pikachu. "Also you can select a move to use on an opponent. If you are worried about that move running out of PP, you can also use the Normal Attack that only does ten damage but never runs out of PP," Pikachu explained.

     Charmander retaliated with another Scratch attack. Diglett lost eighteen HP and fainted. Charmander gained 2 EXP, and Pikachu gained 1 EXP. "Great job!" said Pikachu. "You defeated a wild pokemon! Now, let's keep searching for the stairs."

     Charmander left the room and went through a passageway into a small, empty room and back into another passageway when encountering a wild Shellos level 1 that attacked with Mud-Slap. Charmander lost 4 HP and remained with 6 HP. Charmander attacked the Shellos with the Normal Attack. Shellos lost 6 HP and remained with 13 HP. Shellos attacked Pikachu with a Mud-Slap. Pikachu lost 12 HP and remained with 6 HP. Pikachu attacked with a Thundershock and it was super effective, so Shellos lost all of it's HP and fainted. Pikachu gained 2 EXP, and Charmander gained 1 EXP. "Some moves can be super effective depending on their type. The Normal Attack has no type but every other attacking move has one," Pikachu explained.

     Charmander ate his Oran Berry and restored all of his deducted HP.

     Charmander left the passageway and went into a small room with stairs. "If you climb down the stairs you will travel to second floor: B2," Pikachu explained. Charmander reached the stairs and climbed down. Then, he walked through a long passageway and encountered a wild Piplup level 2. The Piplup attacked Charmander with Pound so he lost 12 HP and remained with 8. Pikachu attacked Piplup with Thundershock and Piplup lost all of it's HP due to the super-effective attack and fainted. Pikachu gained 5 EXP, and Charmander gained 3 EXP.

     A Pecha Berry fell to the ground. "This is the lost Pecha Berry for our mission. Piplup was holding it." Charmander said. He picked it up and they were transported back to the guild.

     "Thank you very much for finding my Pecha Berry." said Bonsly. "Here is your Oran Berry and fifty Pokedollars." Charmander and Pikachu recieved an Oran Berry and fifty Pokedollars. Team Pokemon Explorers was awarded five ranking points.

     "Actually we'll take that money," Chatot said. "Ninety-nine percent of the money goes to the guild. So that leaves you with...one Pokedollar." Chatot took forty-nine Pokedollars.

     "What!? We do all of the work and only get one Pokedollar? This is unfair!" Pikachu argued.

     "Silence! If you want to be 'fair' then leave the guild! We don't take nonsense like this here!" retaliated Chatot.

     "Chatot sure can be ignorant," muttered Pikachu.

     "Oh well. Atleast we got to help a pokemon in need," Charmander said. "Let's go have dinner."

     Just like for breakfast, each of the pokemon recieved a plate with berries and an apple. After finishing dinner, Pikachu and Charmander walked to their sleeping room. 

     "Today was a great day, Charmander. Let's look forward to another day of exploring tommorow," Pikachu said. "Good night, Charmander."
