"M-Mom, I'm home!" I yelled, closing the front door with my foot, struggling to carry Liu."Why hello dea- Oh, my goodness what happened?!" She yelped, putting her spoon down to help me.
"H-He's a friend. I found him passed out outside. I don't know what happened, and he's not waking up" I said, panic filling my voice.
"Alright, deary, he's certainly not bleeding. Just set him down on the couch" I ambled over to the couch, and gently put him onto the cushions, letting out a sigh of relief.
"We have some leftover soup, surely he's hungry" she said, opening the refrigerator and taking out a bowl.
I smiled. Mom made the best soup.
I got up off the couch and walked into the kitchen, filling a glass of water for him.
I set it down on the coffee table, and felt his forehead. It was burning.
"Mom, he has a pretty bad fever..." I said, splashing a bit of water on his face.
"Nothing my soup can't fix. What's his name?" She asked, setting the bowl on the table and sitting in her armchair.
"Liu. He just started going to school with me, and to be honest, he acts a little, strange" I mumbled, looking down at my feet.
"What kind of strange, dear?" She replied, giving me a questioning look.
"He's always jumpy, and when we had a lock-down drill, he just looked plain terrified" my mom nodded.
"Mm-hm. Take off his jacket, will you?" I nodded and slowly started to remove it, a light blush forming on my cheeks.
"Your face is pink, dear! Is something wrong?" That just made me blush more.
"N-Nothing, it's just a bit awkward..." I sighed and hung his jacket on the coatrack.
"You like him, don't you?" I gasped and looked at her, my face now a deep red.
"N-No! I don't even know his last name!" My mother gave me a warm smile and turned on the television.
"Breaking news! The smile killer strikes again! Leaving even more evidence of his visit to this small family. The killer has still not been caught or yet identified, but is known by the name of 'ghost killer' or, the infamous 'smile killer' This suspicious murderer carves large smiles into his victim's cheeks, much like himself. A recent sighting of this ominous killer, was by a young boy, Jeremy Miller. He describes this man as 'tall and lanky, with a large smile cut deep into his lips, never ceasing and making every hair on my body stand on end. His eyes, never closed and seemed to look inside of me, as if plotting the very way he was going to stab his large kitchen knife into my throat' If you happen to see a person fitting this description, please contact the police. Remember to keep all of your doors and windows shut"
My mom sighed. "It's a shame that such a person can do so much wrong, and feel no remorse" I frowned and looked down.
I heard a small groan behind me, and looked over to Liu.
He was waking up.
"L-Liu? Are you okay?" The boy opened both of his neon-green eyes, and looked at me with a blank expression.
"Jenny? What- why- where am I?" He rubbed his eyes and looked around.
"You're in my house. I found you passed out in the snow. Are you alright?" Liu looked at me with a bit of shock in his expression, and he bolted upright.
"I-I passed out? And you, helped me? Why?" I looked at him, a confused expression plastered across my face.
"Because, you obviously needed help. I couldn't just leave you out there in the freezing cold" my mother sat behind me, not saying a word.
"Liu, do you really live in a small house near the woods?" Liu looked down.
"I-I, I don't live anywhere... I've lived in alleys, treehouses, abandoned buildings, but I could never call any of those places home" Liu curled up into a fetal position and rested his head on his knees.
"L-Liu, it's okay now. You can stay with us" I gave him a warm smile.
"You don't need to do that. I was doing just fine on my own" he looked down.
"No dear, you're staying right here. What would've happened if Jenny didn't find you? You would've frozen out there. See? It's even snowing right now" me and Liu both looked out the window, to see large, white snowflakes falling to the ground.
"Liu, please. Let us help you" Liu looked up.
"F-Fine" I gave him a small smile to reassure him.
"Are you hungry?" I asked, pushing the soup a little closer to him.
"Not really-" Liu's stomach then growled, and I giggled.
Liu blushed and picked up the soup, and began to eat. I gave him a small smile.
"Well, welcome Liu. I hope you like it here"
