"Ugh, what do you want, Kayla?" I said, looking up from my food and into her cold, brown eyes.

"I just want to know who the new kid is. Mind telling me?" She smiled innocently and fluttered her eyelashes.

"As if I would tell you. Get lost" I exclaimed my words strongly, trying to defend myself.

She then grabbed my hair and pulled me up so we were face to face.

"H-Hey, stop!" Me and Kayla both turned to face Liu, who was standing up, his fists clenched defensively.

Kayla then let go of my hair and walked over to Liu.

"And what might your name be?" Liu backed up a little bit.

"Liu..." He then sat back down, completely ignoring Kayla.

Kayla then turned to face me and then sasheyed off.

"What was that about?" Natalie said, clearly confused.

"I think she's just trying to pick on Liu. You know how she is with new kids" She nods and continues with her pizza.

"Just stay away from her, and she won't give you much trouble" I pat Liu's shoulder, and he tenses.

After lunch was over, I had five more classes to survive.

I moaned in frustration and banged my head against my locker.

"Are you alright?" Liu asked, walking over to me.

"Fine. I just have an exam in math today. I'm really not prepared" he nodded and looked through his books.

The bell rang, and we started to walk to class together.

"So where do you live now?" I asked, trying not to put my face in a touchy subject.

"Uhm, in a little house near the woods" he looked at me and forced a smile, flinching a little bit.

"Are you alright?" I asked questionably.

"Fine, I just have a bit of a stomachache" he said, smiling weakly again.

Something was off.

But I couldn't really ask, as we had already entered the math classroom.

Finally, the long, boring school day was over.

I burst out of the front doors happily, and started to walk home.

My home was a bit of a walk away, maybe a mile or two, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. I was never one to complain much.

Even in the frigid winter temperatures.

The sun had already begun to set, and I picked up the pace, as I didn't want to walk two miles in the dark.

Of course with my luck, that just couldn't happen.

I was never one to really be afraid of the dark, but what was there to fear?

Growing up, I had learned that there was nothing to be afraid of in the darkness.

I was nearing the woods. Didn't Liu say he lived around here? I couldn't spot any houses.

But something did catch my eye.

It was a figure. Clad in black, I couldn't make out who it was. Thank God there was snow on the ground, or I never would have spotted him.

I got a little closer, and instantly recodized the blonde hair and the striped scarf.

Liu.

"L-Liu? What happened?" Not that I expected to get a reply, but I had to try.

No answer.

"Oh, shit, uhm, what do I do?" I couldn't just leave him out here. My only real option was to bring him back to my house.

I grabbed his wrist and started to pull him out of the snow.

'Idiot! You can't just pull him down the street!' I thought to myself. I would have to carry him.

I slipped my arms under his knees and neck and picked him up.

He wasn't even that heavy.
