The Beginning of the End

Alice and Marie were running the maze when the cannon went off, "And here comes the green bean." Marie smiles and laughs, "I can't believe Kate let's you call them that." "It's fun." The two laugh and run in, the group of girls surrounding the box as they usually did this time of the month, "Well we need a new runner so I hope she's good," Alice said as the two walked over. They weren't greeted with the usual sight though, they say a boy smaller than most of the girls huddled in the corner shaking. Kate looked to Marie, "Help me." She nodded and Rosie and Emme came over, lowering a rope down, Kate and Marie went down into the box and Marie crossed her arms as Kate approached the boy who was just tightening himself into a tighter ball. Kate sighs and Marie gives it a try, "Hey buddy, it's okay. What's your name?" She softly reached her hand out for him. The boy looked up at her, "Brandon." She smiled, "Well I'm Marie and that's Kate, you wanna come out of the box? Maybe get some food?" The boy shook his head and Marie shrugged, "Okay well leave you here and Mary is gonna stay with the box till you come out alright?" He remained unmoving and she nodded climbing out of the box with Kate. "Mary, you sit till the newbie comes out." Mary sighs and nods, "Okay sounds good." The girl sits down by the box as Alice has the group of girls disperse. Kate looked at Marie, "Why are you all back this early?" "Well I called the girls in because I thought of something and it's probably the closest we'll get to solving the maze." Kate had a surprised face on and followed Marie. Alice had already been down in the runners' den with the others starting to compare the maps. The girls had been spread around the room working together, "What are you all doing?" "I was looking at some of the maps and when you put them together they make letters." Kate stared at her dumbfounded, "You're kidding?" She shook her head smiling, "I'm telling the bugging truth I've had them working on it all morning as soon as the cannon sounded." "When did you come up with this?" "I couldn't sleep so I looked at the maps and I found it, of course I had then run the maze but there was nothing new so I called them in and started them on this." "You're a blinding genius!" "I've been told so." "Get the rest of the girls together and have Monica cook up dinner early." She nodded and ran off to tell the other Leaders starting with Isabel who ran the garden, "Get the group rounded up Kate called an early dinner for some news." Isabel sighed, "Good I'm exhausted." "Get the news to the others." She nods and Marie runs back to the runners' den, a taller girl with long brown hair comes up to her, "I think we got it." "It's done?" "Yeah." "I knew I could count on you guys." She nods and the girls all hug each other. While the girls weren't related by nature they were the only family they'd ever know. The girls gathered round and Alice read the words out loud, "Float, Catch, Academic, Bacteria, Accident, Chemical, Disaster, Push."
