Kiyoshi was looking at his phone, hesitating whether to send that text to Mina or not. He felt bad for what happened last night, and he wanted to apologize. On the other hand, She probably doesn't want to talk to him and might block him from her life forever.
"Kiyoshi, get off your phone. You're gonna bump into a pole." He heard Riko say. "Sorry coach". He apologized, putting his phone away.
"Hey, is something wrong? '' she asked. "No. Don't worry about me. Let's just focus on the games today''. He said.
"You know you can talk to me, right? '' she put her hand on his arm. "I don't think you would understand". He sighed.
"Hey team, you can go on ahead without us. We'll be there in a minute". She said, The team shrugged and continued to walk off.
"Try me." she said,
"It's about Mina. Yesterday, I asked her about the bruise on her face. She got mad at me and we argued". He confessed.
"Yeah, we kinda noticed".
"Also, I have a feeling that Jiro is physically abusing her and I want to help. But she isn't letting me in".
"You really care about her, huh"?
"I do. I'd do anything just to see her smile again".
"Well first off, you shouldn't force her to do anything. Forcing her to talk is just going to make things even worse. Second, you can't just accuse Jiro of abuse, just because of a hunch. You need evidence. You can continue to help her, but you need to be patient with her. Let Mina come to you".
"Thanks, Riko." Kiyoshi smiled at the brunette.
"Anytime. Now, let's win those games". She smiled.
Mina woke up to her head pounding and the lower half of her body feeling sore from last night. She looked beside her to see Jiro had left. Mina sat up and adjusted the oversized dark gray T-shirt he gave her. The memories from the argument with Teppei flashed in her mind. "I can't believe I lost my best friend." She looked at her vanity to see a small beige bag and grabbed it. She opened it and took out a purple hardcover book. The Smell of Other People's Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock. "I've been meaning to get this book". Mina thought. She looked in the bag again and saw a cream-colored envelope. She grabbed it and opened it. She took out a small note card and opened the flap.
For you. Sorry for being rough on you yesterday. I love you. - Jiro
Mina put the book on her nightstand and buried her face in her hands. She can't keep living like this. But, she has to. For the sake of her parents' business' future, and hers. Her phone went off, interrupting Mina's thoughts. She didn't want to answer it, but it could be pretty important. She instinctively grabbed her phone and answered it.
"Hello"? She answered.
"Did you seriously wake up just now"? She heard Maede yell.
"Yeah, why? What do you need"? Mina rubbed her eyes.
"Dude! Did you seriously forget? You invited us for a group study session at your place"! He yelled.
"I did"? Mina looked at her calendar and read at the tiny writing on the square.
JAPANESE HISTORY STUDY SESSION WITH JIN AND KENJI.
"Oh no, I completely forgot! I'm so sorry!" Mina exclaimed.
"Apologize later, can you let us in? IT'S FREEZING OUTSIDE AND WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR 15 MINUTES"! She heard Sakamoto yell.
"Yeah, I'll let the guard know. One sec."
