Chapter 14

Lily drops off John at the airport. She parked her car and walked with him to his terminal. Before he could enter his gate, they said their farewells.

"Thank you for staying with me. I really needed it" she said.

"Of course, anything for you. I'm a phone call away" he said.

They hugged each other tightly.

"I'm going to miss you. I wish we can just retire and live on a farm. Raise an army of dogs" She said.

He chuckled, "Sounds like the life" he broke off the hug but still held onto her, "You'll manage. We always do." He kisses her forehead, "Be safe, Lilith."

"You too" she said.

She watches him leave until he's out of her sight.

Lily is out on a job, as she searches for her target. She came to assassinate a CEO of a tech company. Petrov invested into this company and the owner had the nerve to not uphold his side of the agreement. Not only did she have to eliminate him but several of his buddies who posed as a threat. Adam was assigned to the opposing side, meaning they will be having their hundredth encounter. But this time is different.

Lily was done entertaining his charades and wanted the job over with. Not only did she finish the job with haste, but if Adam got in her way, she made sure he wouldn't again.

Adam finds himself running for his life. Bullets were flying as he made his way to the city. He ran as fast as he could till he reached a set of familiar stairs. A bullet went through his leg, another to his shoulder, and one more that grazed his cheek before he managed to touch the first step.

He fell on the stairs as he couldn't move from his wounds. He turns around, emerging from the darkness, a gun pointed to his head.

"Ms. Knight, you are on continental grounds. Please put your weapon away and have a drink" Nyx said.

Lily stared down on him, before looking straight ahead. She stepped over to walk past him.

"Make sure he sees a doctor. I'm going to the bar" she said while walking away.

The doorman kindly opened the doors for her and greeted her as she walked by.

"Let's go, Mr. Beckett. We can't have you bleeding out on the streets" Nyx said.

A few of the employees walked out of the hotel and helped Adam inside. They brought him to a doctor on call and treated his wounds.

"Aaah, you went against, Lily?" Dr. Carter said.

"Does everyone know? It's only been less than five minutes" Adam said.

"The leg, shoulder, and a graze on the cheek. It's Lily's signature mark. She marks her victims before coming in for the kill. You're one of the few to survive what comes after the graze" Dr. Carter said.

"I don't believe it. She was trying to kill me" Adam said.

"A job is a job" Dr. Carter said as she finally got all the bullets out.

"We've encountered each other plenty of times, she's never gone this far" Adam said.

"Then you must've pissed her off" Dr. Carter said.

Adam didn't answer, and Dr. Carter knew she was right on the dot.

"Well, I suggest you squash any beef you two have while you're in the continental" Dr. Carter said.

After he was stitched up and treated, he limped his way over to the bar. He sat on one of the stools and asked the bartender where Lily was.

"Hey, Saul. Where's Lily?" Adam said.
