Chapter 15

Lily went over to her mansion in Hidden Hills, her tenant's lease was up and she came by to pick up the keys and make sure everything was running smoothly. She stayed in for the night as she didn't want to drive to her beach house.

She grabbed a quick midnight snack when suddenly, she hears a whistle from her right side. She quickly jolted her head to the direction before a wave of heat hits her. She falls back from the explosion, her body flies and topples down in the ruins of her home. Another sound of the whistle and the other side of her home exploded. The impact made her senses slow and disoriented. It took her a few minutes to force herself back up. She was swaying back and forth, her pajamas singed and tattered.

She hears sirens from a distance. She stood there, trying to process what had happened. Firefighters and police came in.

A cop approaches her, familiar with who Lily was, "Gas leak?" he said.

"Yeah" she said.

"Still working?" he said.

"Yup" she said as she dragged herself to her car that was parked on the curb and remained intact.

She drove home where she cleaned herself up. She treated any burn wounds and scratches.

Her phone rings and she took her time getting there to answer it.

"Hello" she said.

"I heard what happened" he said.

"Is this payback?" she said.

"Whatever do you mean by that?" he said.

"Don't play games with me. I know this was you. I declined once and this is how you treat me?" she said.

"Treat you? What about the way you treat me? Have you forgotten you are under a contract?" he said.

"Do you really want me to become your enemy?" she said.

"I think it's the other way around sweetheart. Now, if you would please come to my office. I have some matters to discuss with you" he said.

The phone hangs up and Lily gripped her phone so hard it starts to crack. Out of frustration and anger, she throws the phone to her wall, shattering it to pieces.

She arrived at Ivan's place. Samael sees her and waves but could see she was in no mood to be bothered.

She enters Ivan's office and he had a stupid smirk on his face. His men closed the doors behind them.

"Come on, Lily. Don't look at me like that. I'm only trying to protect you" he said.

"By blowing my house up with me in it?" she said.

"Think of it as a good life lesson not to meddle your private life with your business life. It just won't do" he said.

"What do you want?" she said.

"Now, now, don't give me that attitude. I feel like the older you kids get, the sassier and more rebellious you become" he said.

"I only have a few months with you, Ivan. I wouldn't want to end our contract in a messy way" she said.

"Is that a threat?" he said.

"No, I'm just speaking the truth" she said.

"Well, I suggest you should listen to this" he raises their contract up, "If we look at page thirteen, if I'm unsatisfied with your work, I have the right to extend your contract to fulfill my needs." he then handed it to her to make sure he wasn't making things up, " And I know in the last couple of years, you've been taking in side jobs which for all we know could've interfered with the jobs I give you. I want your full attention and effort since after all, I am your employer and I feel as though I'm not quite satisfied. And if my calculations are correct, with the number of side jobs you took, I may have to extend your contract with me for the maximum four years."
