CHAPTER 4: CLASSIFICATION OF ABILITY

Formal definition is based on concise and logical pattern that includes as much information as it can within a minimum amount of space.The primary reason to include definition in your writing is to avoid misunderstanding with your audience.

A formal definition consist of three parts
•The term (word or phrase) to be defined
•The class of object or concept to which the term belongs
•The differentiating characteristics that distinguish it from all other of its class

For example:
Water (term) is a liquid (class) made up of molecules of hydrogen and oxygen in the ratio of 2 to 1. (Differentiating characteristics)

In an informal definition , the writer uses known words or examples to explain an unknown term. These definition may be synonym or antonyms introduced by or , in other words or like. It could be stipulation,analogy , or illustration.

Informal definition example:
Freedom,also referred to as liberty or independence , is a state of people when they are free to think and do whatever they please.

"Manahimik ka!" Inis na sabi ni Marga at napasigaw si James sa sakit dahil sa ability ni Marga

Margarette's ability is pain manipulation which means it can manipulate mental, emotional, and physical agony, pain and suffering, whether increasing, decreasing, causing or otherwise changing pain, even manifesting the emotional energy to a physical level. But Marga's ability had upgraded to pain transferal where she can transfer physical/mental pain from one living being to another.
