"I don't know, Marcus, I just don't think right now's the perfect time to do this." If the doubt in my voice wasn't obvious, it sure as hell was now. The microwave beeps annoyingly to alert me that my food was finished. I take the leftover takeout out and grab my fork from the countertop.

"And I'm saying it is!" The flamboyant male yells from the other side of the phone. "Now's a perfect time. I think you're ready." I let out a groan as I exit the kitchen. This conversation has been going on for far too long now. I pull the phone back to look at the time. Forty-four. We were nearing forty-four fucking minutes. Marcus, my agent and best friend for all intents and purposes, has been trying to persuade me to take a look at a script he sent over. From my understanding, it was big named. Big production, big talent, big money. Something I was not. "How many more low-budget films are you going to subject yourself to before you decide you're ready for what you deserve?" He asks.

I make my way to the living room. "That's a question I won't answer."

"You won't or you can't?" I pause in front of the couch, silence taking hold of me. That was a good question. A very good question. Damnit, Marcus. "You know what, I'm going to go ahead and schedule it—"

"Don't—"

"Nope, not listening to you this time. You stand in your own way, Keira. I'm scheduling the audition. You show up or you risk making a bad name for yourself." He threatens.

My eyes wander down to the thick collection of papers being held together by metal binds in the center of my coffee table. I take a deep breath and look away towards the food in my hand. "I should fire you," I whisper.

"Not before you thank me." He says confidently. "Read the script. You've got a day to get pages 53 and 54 memorized. We'll chat soon." The phone call ends and I was once again left to the silence that filled my tiny apartment. My gaze finds the thick script on the table again. I don't understand—how can something inanimate be so intimidating? I place my leftover Chinese takeout on the table, replacing the warm box with the cool ivory pages that was the script.
