1 WEEK LATER...
How long did these big shot auditions take? It's been a week and I've yet to get a call. It made me anxious. I was sure that I had nailed it. Even Tom thought I did pretty well. That should count for something right? The star of your movie thinks that I'm good. Then again...he could've been saying that to everyone. How encouraging of him to do such a thing.
Sampson and I started to hang out a little more. He surprised me with a picnic on the beach earlier this week and played me some of the music he was working on. He's really hellbent on dating me. It's kinda cute. I haven't had anyone put in this much effort since high school and even then, that doesn't even come this close.
I stood in the break room scrolling on my phone. I hid partially behind the lockers so just in case someone came in, I wouldn't get sent out. It was almost the end of my shift. I may have about...twenty minutes before I can clock out and run for the hills? I wasn't working the night shift tonight, so I planned to get my house in order when I got home. The mess that was accumulating there was growing out of control by the day.
The door opened to the room and I responded late to it. "Keira," Gio shouts. I close my eyes and press myself further into the wall. "Keira, I can see you!" It's a trick. It's a trick to get me to come out from the shadows and for me to expose myself. Footsteps came closer and an arm yanked me out from the wall. Well maybe not. I open my eyes and look down at the short man with a slight annoyance on my face. "You've got a table."
"But I get off in twenty-five minutes," I whine.
"That's too bad! Go get them." He shouts. I lower my phone into the pocket of my apron and make my way out of the room. Damnit, so much for riding out the rest of my shift. How does everyone else do it and get away with it? Maybe Gio doesn't care about them and just has some tacit issue with me.
I make my way over to my section, finding the table almost immediately. "Hi, how are you guys? My name's—" Familiar blue eyes found my own and a smile was soon to follow.
"Keira." The Englishman says leaning back in his seat.
"Tom, hi! You remembered my name." I note. "That's impressive." He chuckles softly.
"How could I forget?" He questions in a slightly deeper tone. He then pops up in his seat. "Oh, where are my manners? Keira, this is my friend Alex. Alex, this is Keira." Alex gives me a nod and then points at me with furrowed brows.
"Is this the same..."
Tom cleared his throat suddenly and gave a slow, cautious nod. "Yes, yes, she is, Alex." I lift an eyebrow at their uncomfortable exchange. "Thank you." He turns his attention towards me once more and I put my smile back on. "We won't give you a hard time, I promise."
"You guys are my last table of the day so even if you did, it wouldn't matter in about..." I look down at my watch. "Fifteen minutes," I say, looking at him once more. It's been a long day. Today wasn't necessarily difficult, but it was agonizingly tedious. I'm talking so slow that thirty minutes was actually five in reality. I didn't think I was going to make it, but here I am moments away from being able to clock out.
"Well, if that's the case, how about you join us for lunch? Have you eaten today?" Tom suggests, motioning towards the table. I peek at Alex and he's grinning softly to himself. His eyes then flicked up to mine and he reached for his phone to make himself look oblivious I guess.
I shook my head. "I don't want to intrude." I look to Tom. "Besides my boss is kinda an asshole, so..."
"Oh, don't be silly you're not encroaching and if your boss decides to say anything, I'll gladly speak up." Tom and I stared at each other in silence. My eyes lowered into slits and the smile on his face grew in size.
