Carter's POV

Not responding to Matty is a mistake most people should be afraid of. However, I have a good enough excuse that she might forgive me for it. Maybe....

At least that's what I'm telling myself as I'm looking at the hundreds of missed calls and text messages from her on my phone. She will understand that I couldn't take my phone on an undercover mission, right?

I mean it's not like I meant to worry her. But, just reading some of the text messages has me feeling really guilty about not letting her know about the mission beforehand. They wouldn't give me the time to but, still the messages break my heart.

"Hey Car"

"You there?"

"Carter?!"

"Answer me Carter!!"

"You have me worried sick, please answer me soon."

"No one will give me a straight answer at the office."

They just keep going on and on. Not to mention the fact that there is a total count of.....

142 UnRead Text Messages

213 Missed Calls

186 UnOpened Voicemails

All from one Matilda Webber

Then there's something else that surprises me.

27 UnRead Text Messages

55 Missed Calls

43 unOpened Voicemails

Those ones from Jack Dalton, I didn't even know he was back.

Matty is gonna be so pissed when I finally answer my phone. I can already imagine the yelling and screaming that is to come. I think I got to lost in my thoughts because I'm yet again startled by the sound of my phone ringing in my hands. Causing me to jump and throw the phone in the air.

With it landing on a pile of clothes on the dresser. Leaving me to scramble after it to answer it one time. I grab my phone and press accept on the fourth ring.

"Carter?!"

"Yes?" I mentally winced, probably not my best response but, it's too late now.

"Really? Yes? That's all I get after you being missing for almost two years now?" Oh chuck, I can feel the worry and anger rolling off her from here.

"But, I wasn't missing?" I guess I kinda was but, that wasn't my fault.

"Seriously? No one knew where you were. That classifies as missing Carter." I know that she is glaring just by the sound of her voice

"Okay, I guess that does. If no one knew where I was but the office did."

"What?! Of course, they lied to me. Undercover mission, I'm guessing?"

"Yes Ma'am," I say and smirk cause I know that she is going to roll her eyes at me. I act like a kid enough to where it only slightly affects her now.

"Okay, anyway  I have been trying to call you and offer you a job since a few days after I got promoted. You in?" I can tell she is smirking because she already knows the answer.

"Is that even a question? Of course I'm in."
