You were in your bathroom getting ready for the day. Music was playing as you tried to sing along and brush your teeth at the same time. Your music was interrupted as your phone started to ring signaling that someone was calling you. You quickly finish brushing your teeth and picked up the phone, looking at the caller ID.

'Foster Care System'

You quickly answer it without wasting anymore time. "Hello," you greet.

"Hi, is this [Y/n] [L/n]?" the person on the other side of the phone asked.

"Yes, that's me."

"Good. So I know that you filled out the Foster parent form about a year ago, willing to have a child temporarily stay with you, so I'm not sure if you're still wanting to be a foster parent, but we do have a child that is in need of a home. Are you eligible of taking her in?"

You had to contain your excitement. "Yes, I am eligible and willing to be a foster parent."

"Okay, sounds good. Tomorrow we will send someone over to see if your living space is appropriate for the child. How does that sound?"

"That sounds perfect! How old is the child so I know what stuff to buy?" you asked into the phone.

"The child is a 3 year old girl, so no quirk yet. She doesn't speak much and tends to be very quiet. She has a scar on her left cheek due to previous home abuse. She's been through a lot for someone so young so I'm hoping that she'll be able to grow up in a stable environment."

"Yes, I understand. When will she be here?" you ask.

"In four days."

"Okay. Thank you so much." You hung up the phone and danced around your apartment. You have been wanting to be a foster parent for a while and finally you will be.

You happily entered the cafe, a smile still on. It was your lunch break so you went to go see your parents like usual. The cafe was empty of costumers which was odd since it was lunch time, most people would stop by here.

"Mom, dad!"

"Hey Booker!" Dad greeted. "You look super chipper today."

"Well I got some big news!"

"Oh, so does me and your mother!"

"Y'all go first," you said, gesturing for them to share. Your mom and dad both shared a look before spilling the news.

"We're going to travel the world!" they both said in sync. Your smile slightly faltering before you caught yourself.

"Wow. That's great, um when are y'all leaving in a couple months or weeks or-"

"Tomorrow!" they both said in sync again. This time you didn't stop your smile from failing.

"Tomorrow? What do you mean tomorrow? What about the cafe?"

"We sold the building to Pro Hero, Endeavor. He bought a lot of store of this street, apparently wanting to grow his agency. Anyways, they gave us a hell of a lot of money for it, so we took the deal," your mom said.

You finally stopped to take a look around the cafe. There were boxes everywhere packed and full. They weren't joking.

"Oh."

"Yup! So what was your big news that you had tell us?" your dad asked putting an arm around his wife and pulling her in closer to him. They both seemed happy.

"I, uh, got an idea for my book," you lied. Your parents clapped their hands excitedly.

꧁꧂☺︎︎꧁꧂

"I can't believe I lied to them. I feel so bad too. But they're leaving tomorrow and I couldn't tell them the real news because if I did then they would want to stay with me and help out and I just wanted them to be happy and do what they love."

It was around 10:00 pm and you were ranting to Dabi about what's been on your mind all day. Dabi had begun to make it a regular thing to come by after closing hours and just sit in the bookstore and talk with you for a while. Right now, he was processing what you told  him.

"I just can't believe they sold their cafe to Endeavor. My parents loved that place. Plus, how much more does a pro hero need?"

"He's an ass," Dabi said rolling his eyes.

"You've met him?"

"Something like that, yeah."

"So...what really was the big news you wanted to tell them?" he asked changing the subject. You smiled remembering the conversation you had on the phone this morning.

"I'm going to be a foster parent."

You saw his eyes go wide for a second. "You like kids?"

You nodded your head. "Yeah, I do," you chuckled out.

"Why? Kids are gross."

"Kids are innocent," you corrected him. "The little girl I'm fostering is coming from an abusive environment...she's only 3," you whispered the last part. You look back up at Dabi. "So, I just wanna protect her, ya know?"

He nodded. "When are you taking her in?"

"She'll be here in 4 days." He nodded again. "Well that was how my day went," you said organizing some books on the bookshelf. "How was your day?" you asked him.

"Same as yesterday." You shake your head playfully, letting your eyes roll as well.

"I'm serious. You never talk about yourself much."

"Cause I don't like talking about myself," he responded leaning back in his chair. You put your hands up in defense.

"Okay okay," you chuckled out.

"I do have a favor to ask though," he said looking over to where you were still organizing the books.

"Ask away," you said not taking your eyes off the books in front of you.

"Can I crash at your place tonight?" Hearing that made you turn your head his way to see that there was no hint of jokes behind that question. He was being serious.

"Oh, uh yeah sure. How come?"

"I just don't want to deal with my roommates tonight," he grumbled out causing you to laugh.

"What's it like having a roommate? I've always been by myself most the time so I have no idea."

"It's fucking annoying," he grumbled out again.

"Really? I'd imagine that it would be nice since you'll always have someone to talk to."

"You have no idea."
