Though it took heavy convincing, Mr. and Mrs. Kim somehow managed to get Jihan to agree to stay for dinner. She despised the situation she was caught up in, awkward was an understatement. All she wanted was to give the kitten a second chance but what has she gotten herself into?"So, Jihan- or do people call you Esther?" Mr. Kim asked he swirled his chopsticks around his spaghetti.
"You may call me by either. They're both my names afterall," Jihan replied.
"You talk so formal, just like your dad," Mr. Kim laughed. "You're the spitting image of him, it almost terrifies me"
Although she knew it was just a harmless joke, a part of her quivered at the thought of her being her father's reflection. To avoid any questioning, she returned the light laugh, "You knew my father, Mr. Kim?"
"Oh we were good friends, very good friends. I got along with him very well," Mr. Kim told. "Especially Hanyoung, your mother"
There was a quick shift of ambience at the mention of her mother's name. Everything just seemed... Off. Mr. and Mrs. Kim's wide grins narrowed down to a smile that almost seemed sad. Why were they sad?
She turned to look at Mingyu who was eating his meal, oblivious of the atmosphere.
"Your mother was an energetic person, she's changed- but then again, we've all grown," Mrs. Kim stated, "Though I never really got to know her personally"
"Were you classmates too, Mrs. Kim?" Jihan asked.
"I'm two years above Myungsoo, so I was their senior," Mrs. Kim stated.
She found it strange. She knew her mother and father were classmates with Soonyoung's and Wonwoo's parents, but they never mentioned the Kim family.
"I didn't know you two knew my parents. They seemed reserved towards you two during my... During their party," she avoided bringing up the topic of her engagement, the situation itself she was in was unbearable enough.
"Yes, we got out of touch," Mrs. Kim reasoned, but something was off. It seemed forced.
Jihan grew up surrounded by deception and mischief, so she could easily see through simple lies. Not wanting to bring any more discomfort to the table, she dismissed the little lie, "I see. That's unfortunate to hear"
"Even the way you speak is very Jake Lee," Mr. Kim lightheartedly joked to ease the atmosphere. "You and your brother don't really look alike, huh?"
"We're fraternal," Jihan replied, smiling.
"So what're your plans after highschool?" Mr. Kim asked. "You're going to university, right?"
With a father like mine, I don't really have a choice. "Of course. I'm thinking of applying to a few universities abroad"
"You're going back to England?" Mingyu asked, finally speaking.
"No, no. I'm thinking of studying in Scotland, I don't think Jihoon would want to study in England"
"I heard that Jihoon's going to SNU," Mingyu confusedly asked. He could've sworn that Jihoon mentioned SNU College of music. He even recalled Wonwoo being quite upset over him choosing SNU over what they've planned.
Jihan lifted a brow, "He said that?"
"Yeah, he did"
"You're going to go to University with your brother?" Mrs. Kim asked. "That's so wonderful. Your mother must feel relieved- ah, I wish I had twins"
"After you see Jihan and Jihoon fight, I'm sure you wouldn't say that again," Mingyu muttered playfully.
"Well, they're siblings so that's normal," Mrs. Kim laughed. "How're you and Joshua, Jihan?"
