I was waiting at one of the many blue and grey lunch tables for Mathew to come and tell me what I have been waiting to hear all day. I scrolled through my phone, reloading Pinterest every few minutes, and eating strawberries
"Capri!"
I looked up to see Mathew, his brown hair a mess, and clothes spotted with dirt.
"uh...What happened to you?" I responded.
"Ran in between three fights, basketball practice, a volleyball game, and well, the whole school."
"Wha-"
"I'm here now,"
"I...have so many questions..."
"Well, I have to tell you the thing now!"
"Right! talk."
"Ok so," Mathew looked like he was seconds away from exploding from excitement. "I was-"
"Ahem!" Mathew and I looked up to see our principal standing on the table in the middle of the cafeteria. I sighed, upset that he interrupted right when Mathew was going to tell me whatever it was he wanted to say.
"Ugh," I heard Mathew groan, clearly upset too.
"Please so one panic, but I'm going to have you all quickly go to your next class."
When everyone looked at him weirdly without moving he spoke in a more urgent tone.
"Now!"
Everyone went to their assigned classes, when I looked behind me I saw the soccer and volleyball team also here, still in their uniforms...weird.
Mathew and I went into our science class then took our seats and waited. More people shuffled in and also sat down, then our teacher, Ms. Mare, stumbled in looking flustered and panicked.
"Everyone to the side-under the d-desk thing!" Ms. Mare stuttered, fear lacing her words.
"What's going on?" A girl asked.
"There's s-someone here, they e-escaped from the jail. They h-have a gun."
That got a lot of gasps. I was surprised but not scared or panicked. Mathew on the other hand was squeezing my arm so tightly it felt like my hand was going numb from loss of blood. I placed my hand on his and removed it from my arm.
"Sorry," He muttered. I gave him a reassuring smile and held his hand for comfort.
Click.
I heard a muffled sob as a shadow passed the door, a few people were shaking, trying to text their families, and me.
The door busted open faster than you can say oh sh-, on second thought, I should be running. I realized that when I felt Mathew pulling on my wrist. The shooter was dressed in all black with a fox mask speckled with blood, so we weren't the first class he broke into.
Everyone was away from the desk and up against the wall farthest from Fox, while a stayed in my spot staring up at the man. He held up his gun to my head and inched forward until the cold metal of the barrel of the pistol was on my forehead. Mathew let out a sob to my left.
I dodged. I read somewhere once that if you do it right you can stab someone before they have the chance to pull the trigger. I didn't have a knife but I did have a fist. I punched Fox in the gut and hip-threw him on the ground-thanks mom for having me do martial arts two years ago. I sat over his stomach and pinned his hands to the ground.
"Someone call the cops! And hand me that gun!" I yelled at the group of people. I looked down at Fox's blood-splattered mask and fear started to creep in-yes, I can feel fear.
When no one did anything except look at me shocked, I shouted louder.
"Mathew, gun! Ms. Mare, police!" Mathew stumbled to the ground and Ms. Mare started searching her desk for her phone.
Shhhhhh
Gas filled the classroom. I looked down at Fox, my vision blurred.
"W-what...?" I slurred then hit my head on the hard ground.
Oh sh-
kind of short, I know. What do you think will happen next? I hope this was at least a little scary. Have a good day/night
