Chapter 4: New Leads, Gabrielle and Liz Bonds and In The Shadows

Back at the station, the women sit in the briefing room discussing what just happened. "Xena, you said Callisto would never have sex with random people, then kill them?" Agent Shaw asks.

"No, that isn't her M.O. She kills for the thrill, " says Xena. "She has never used sex as a means to kill; that's not her."

"She sounds like a psychopath." Agent Panos says.

"Pretty much," Gabrielle says seriously.

"She became who she was because of me," Xena says. "My army and I burnt her village to the ground, killed her family! I damaged her forever."

"But Xena, look who she became in the end," Gabrielle says.

Xena smiles at Gabrielle then says, "Still, something isn't right about this."

"Do you think this is truly Callisto?" Agent Shaw asks. "She basically flew through the trees and disappeared right in front of us."

Xena starts to pace around the room and says, "I don't know. She knew things only Gabrielle and I would know, yet, something seems off about this."

Agent Panos's phone goes off, and she answers it, "This is Agent Panos. Yes, yes, really! And the third one? Are you serious!" Agent Panos starts to pace around, then says, "Okay, get three groups together and check each place out, then get back to me ASAP. Especially the third lead!" Agent Panos hangs up her phone and has a worried look on her face.

"What did you find out, Agent Panos?" Agent Shaw asks.

"There might be three possible leads. One in Oklahoma, one in Michigan, and one in Massachusetts ." Agent Panos says. "Three women fit Callisto's description. The ones in Oklahoma and Michigan are patients from treatment facilities who have escaped. They were unfit to stand trial for murders that they committed."

"And the one in Massachusetts?" Xena asks.

"This one is strange." Agent Panos says. "She was a part of a Wicca group that dealt in witchcraft, but not for evil purposes."

"Today's witchcraft deals more with spirituality and nature, not the witchcraft that we dealt with in ancient times," Gabrielle says.

"There are still some groups that dabble in the occult, though," Xena says. "What else did you find, Agent Panos?"

"She is wanted by the police there for an occult type murder of the group leader. When the police arrived on the scene, the leader had an ancient dagger through her chest, and written in blood were the words "Calisto lives again."

Xena, Gabrielle, and Agent Shaw get shocked looks on their faces, and Shaw proclaims, "Are you serious!"

"Yes." Agent Panos says. "I'm having a team go there, but I am going to do some research on this one also."

"Good call Panos. Okay, I'm going to go grab us something to eat. Xena, do you want to ride along?" Agent Shaw asks.

"Sure," Xena says as she looks at Gabrielle and Agent Panos. "You two stay here in the case any more info comes in."

"Will do," Gabrielle says as Agent Shaw and Xena leave.

Agent Panos looks at Gabrielle, smirks, and says, "You know, at first, I didn't believe in the whole reincarnation thing with you two."

"Why's that?" Gabrielle asks.

"I've always been a skeptic." Agent Panos says. "Until I saw Xena in action. That blew me away! Do you possess the same abilities as her?"

Gabrielle smiles and says, "Yes and no. We have our own different physical abilities."

"Fascinating." Agent Panos says. "With my background in mental health, I try to see the logic in things. But when I saw Xena in action, my eyes were opened." Gabrielle smiles at Agent Panos. "By the way, you can call me Liz."
