(Y/N) POV
I feel different, to say the least.
Currently, it was a late night, and I was struggling to fall asleep. Just my luck.
Maybe it's the new environment. The new world and the different atmosphere, but never have I had an issue with anything like that. I am made to adapt to these kinds of places, so why can't I sleep?
Ena. I can't stop thinking about her and her beauty. Something about this mission feels different, different than all the others, and she's the reason why. It doesn't help that I'll have to work with her for the next to months, at most.
Why is she on my mind? Is it her unique character? Her asymmetrical body? Her divine beauty? I don't know...
Is it possible to bail out of a mission? I've never heard of it happening, but it could be possible, right?
Who am I kidding? I'm stuck here and I don't know what to do. Even if I could, it would be cowardly for me to bail out of this mission, especially since is supposed to be easy.
You know what I need? Fresh air. That's what I need.
I remove the covers from my body, getting up from my bed, and slipping on a pair of shoes that happen to be there. I sigh, walking out of my little temporary cottage.
I took a deep breath, looking up at the starlit sky. Oddly enough, there was no moon. Is Moony the moon?
I smile, starting to take a walk through the woods. It felt good to be outside. I could clear my thoughts properly, having them calm down for once. Since I got here, it seems like my brain doesn't want to shut up no matter how much I want it to. Thinking too much is overwhelming.
I sigh, leaning against a tree that was lit by a big star in the sky. A replacement for the moon, I guess.
Finally, I felt my thoughts calm down. I began humming a small tune, making up notes and rhythms as I go. I smiled, knowing everything was going to be okay.
"That's a nice tune." I jump, startled by a familiar voice. I turn to see the one and only Ena, the reason I came out here in the first place. Ironic, isn't it.
"Oh, hello Ena." I greeted. "You startled me there."
"Sincerest apologies. I didn't mean to. I was just on a walk and I happened to see you. I wanted to thank you for helping me earlier." She explains.
"Ah, of course!" I say.
"You really didn't have to. To you, I was a stranger."
"Well, yeah, but if you saw someone crying in the woods you'd probably want to help them. I couldn't just leave you there. I'd feel bad myself, honestly. The least I could do in that situation is try to help." I scratch the back of my neck, a bit nervous but not knowing why.
Ena leans against the tree next to me. "You are right about that. What are you doing up this late?" She asks.
"Ah, no reason really." I lie. "I just had trouble sleeping."
"As well as I. I couldn't stop thinking. Doesn't that ever happen to you? You become overwhelmed by your thoughts?" Ena asks. She seems curious, trying to get to know me.
"Well, not often, but tonight something has been bothering me and it won't leave my head. That's why I'm out here." I explain, coming clean.
"So it's not for no reason?"
"I guess not."
"What's on your mind?"
How do I explain that? I can't just say "Oh I've just been thinking about how I've been sent to this universe to help you but I can't stop thinking about you." That would be very odd and a ton to explain.
How do I put this into words where it doesn't blow my cover? Or embarrass me...
"Well, there's someone I know and I have to uh, help them with something. It's kinda like my job, or something like that. For some reason though, I can't stop thinking about them. I hardly know them, but they won't leave my mind. I'm not too sure why." I explain, looking off into the distance.
"Hm," Ena taps her chin with her index finger. "That's interesting. Maybe you're just interested in the person." She says. Interested? In a person? I mean I've been interested in people before but not to this extent.
"What does that mean?" I must sound stupid.
"Well, it's simple. You're taking interest in them." Ena explains.
"Yeah but," I begin. "I've been interested in people before and this hasn't happened," I say.
"Maybe you're just more interested in this person then," Ena says, giving me a simple answer.
I guess she's right, but I don't understand. I've lived for so long. Surely, I would know what this is, right?
"I guess. But what about you? What's keeping you up?" I implore.
"You."
Huh?
"I'm sorry, what?"
"You. I can't stop thinking about you." She says.
That was blunt.
"The way you helped me, not even Moony has thought of doing anything like that. I've been thinking about it all night. I'm just delighted." She says. "Thank you, again."
"Again, of course."
"You know, I'd like to get to know you," Ena began, getting my attention once again. "Moony mentioned that your name is (Y/N), correct?"
I nodded, "Uh, yeah, it's (Y/N)." I say, awkwardly.
Ena held out her hand. "We didn't have a proper introduction. I'm Ena." She smiled. My heart melted at the sight of it. I smiled back, shaking her hand.
"Hi Ena, It's nice to meet you."
"You as well," She says. "Oooo! Moony also mentioned that you were new around here, correct? We should show you around sometime. You should come to auction day."
"Auction day?"
"Yeah, It's taking place tomorrow. You should come."
"Alright," First step to my mission, getting to know her. "Sure. I'd love to come." I say with a smile.
"Splendid!" She clapped her hands in excitement. "Moony and I will show up at your cottage, is that okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. That's fine."
"Great! I'll see you then, alright?"
"Yeah, definitely."
And just like that, she began to walk away into the distance. I watched as her hair swayed from the left to the right as she walked away. A small smile formed on my face. Everything about her caught my attention. I never wanted her to leave my sight
I don't think I'll sleep tonight.
