Chapter 11
I gulped. "You do?" My voice trembled as I spoke. I had never imagined that when I said that I loved him that he would say it back. In fact, I hadn't expected him to ever say anything again.
Sherlock held me close to him and looked me in the eyes as he said,"Of course I do."
I stared back into the eyes of someone I thought I had lost forever.
Sherlock kept talking," I think I know what Molly really meant when she said that I looked sad when I thought you couldn't see me. I never expected our relationship to go any farther than being friends, John. And I thought that you felt the same. I thought that you couldn't see how I felt about you. You kept saying that there wasn't anything between us, and it did make me sad because it made me lose hope."
"I saw you, Sherlock. I really did," I promised him.
He smiled that smiled. The one I had missed for so long.
I buried my head into Sherlock's shoulder. "I thought you were gone."
"I know, I'm sorry. I did what I had to," Sherlock ran his fingers through my soaked hair to comfort me," but I'm here now, John."
"I'm not letting you go this time, Sherlock," I said.
He squeezed me tight to show that he wouldn't let go either.
"Let's go home," I suggested.
Sherlock's expression turned into one of extreme pain.
"What is it? What's wrong?" I asked him.
"John, I can't come home," he said, sadness eminent in his voice.
"Why the hell not?" I asked. I had just gotten him back. I wasn't letting Sherlock leave my side.
"Nobody can know that I'm still alive," Sherlock told me his reason.
"But Sherlock, you need to come home with me....please," I pleaded.
"I'm sorry, John."
I started to cry again.
"Sherlock, just wait for me here. I'll be back. Every day. Do you want me to bring you something?" I asked.
"Actually, something to eat would be nice," he whispered, "I'm so very hungry."
"Okay. I'll come back tomorrow. I'll bring you food," I managed to say through my tears.
"John, don't cry," Sherlock said.
I wiped the tears from my face. "When you come home, I'll stop crying."
I reached out and kissed Sherlock once more before leaving.
I passed Annalise on the way out.
"John, are you okay?" She asked me,"You look like you've seen a ghost."
I laughed," Sure, let's go with that."
"Did he like the rose?" she laughed. She didn't realize how plausible her question was.
"I should hope so," I smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow, Annalise."
"Bye, John," she waved.
I walked into 221B feeling happier than I had been in months.
