It was the next day and Lily and I were sitting outside near a tree, reading. I leaned against Lily's shoulder not looking away from my book.

"Lily," A voice called out, pulling my attention away from the book. "Severus," Lily said and smiled at her friend. "Snape," I greeted with a nod and looked down at my book again.

"Lupin," He greeted back.

I didn't pay attention to the conversation until It had to do with Lily needing to grab something.

"I'll be back," Lily told me with a smile and walked off. "All right," I said and took the book from her hands as she walked off.

I then looked back down at my book continuing to read my book, not daring to look at Snape.

"Look who it is boys," I heard James' voice causing me to look up from my book. "It's Snivellus," Sirius then said with a smirk. Peter and Remus followed behind them.

"Guys I don't think this is necessary," I spoke up, standing up from my spot.

Snape backed away knowing that he was gonna get bullied. I stepped in front of Severus blocking him from the spell sent to him.

"Are you friends with Snivellus, (n/n)?" Sirius asked, eyebrows furrowed. "No, but James Lily doesn't like you bulling her friend." I replied and looked at James. James only smirked and sent another spell towards Snape.

I grabbed out my wand and blocked his spell looking at James' shocked expression.

"You're supposed to be on our side, Y/n!" James exclaimed. "I am! But your girlfriend won't like what you're doing the second she comes back, catching you ruining this guys life!" I defended.

I then felt hands grab my arms pulling me back from Snape.

"Remus let me go!" I said and struggled against his grip. Remus didn't responded and watched James use a spell to lift Severus upside down.

"What should we do with him?" Peter asked and laughed at Snapes face. "I don't know maybe we should--"

"James! What are you doing!" Lily's voice rang through everyone's ears and I looked at James, smirking. "Lily," James stuttered out.

"What are you doing to him?! Let him go," Lily demanded and grabbed Snapes hands, trying to pull him down. "I tried to stop them, Lily." I told her and motioned to Remus holding me back.

"I appreciate that, Y/n." Lily responded and glared at James. "Let him go! I need to help him!" Lily told James and he stood still.

"I don't need your help you filthy mudblood!" Snape exclaimed causing Lily to let go of his hands and have tears brim in her eyes. "Excuse me?!" I asked and tore away from Remus' grip.

"What did you just say?" James questioned, fury filling him up. "You heard me," Snape spat.

Lily sprung around and ran off back to the castle. I scoffed before following after her. Lily was running too fast that I couldn't keep up with her.

My breathing became heavy as I continued to run after her.

"Lily!" I shouted after her and caught up to her, grabbing her shoulder. "He called me a mudblood. Why would he do that to me? I was only trying to help him," Lily struggled with her words as tears burned through the corner of her eyes.

"I don't know and I'm terribly sorry that happened to you," I replied and got a napkin from my robe, handing it over to her. "Thank you," Lily whispered and began wiping her tears.

"James is a complete arse for doing that to Snape. I cannot believe what came out of my mouth," I said and looked straight into my best friends eyes.
