"She was pronounced missing in action, sir." The nervous soldier announced.
"Well, did anyone actually look for her? Or did you all sit on your cowardly asses and just assume that?" Levi spat. "Give me that." He snatched the paper the soldier was holding, containing the list of casualties.
You had been listed as one of them.
His eyes scanned the paper and sure enough, your name was there.
"Damn it!" He crumpled the paper and threw it to the ground. How could he let this happen? He let the love of his life go out there alone, and they retreated without her.
"Sir, we need to get back to headquarters..." The young soldier tried to argue. Levi wouldn't hear it.
"No. I'm not going back until I find those missing soldiers. We are not leaving anyone alive behind." He seethed.
Another soldier spoke up. "With all due respect, Captain, we don't have the resources to go back out there. We need to retreat."
Levi scoffed. "Give me your gear. I'm sure you have more gas in there than I do. I'm going back out. Follow me if you want."
Because the decision was optional, Levi was on his own. He went back into the forest where you had gone missing and scanned each and every tree limb and spot of ground.
Each second he didn't find you he got more and more worried. He noticed heaps of dead bodies or remains- those were the other soldiers pronounced missing.
He got the point where he had found everyone except you.
~
You laid just outside the treeline, surrounded by small, yellow flowers. They were pretty.
It was a nice sight to behold right before you were to bite the dust. It was a shame you didn't get to do everything you wanted before you died. You would have liked to spend a little more time with your comrades, send your parents a bit more of your savings so that they could have a nice life, or even get to grow old with your captain, but it seemed like none of that would ever come to fruition. Here it was, the time you die.
Of course, you knew what you were signing up for when you registered for the Scout Legion. You did it because you hate the titans, and you knew the risk of losing your life. You felt sad knowing your parents would have to deal with the loss of their only daughter.
But that's the way the chips fell.
At least, that's what you thought. You could have sworn you saw the blurry image of Captain Levi, calling out your name.
"(Y/N)!"
"(Y/N), wake up, damnit!"
"Wake up!"
Your eyes shot open. There he was, covered in steaming blood and rain. You hadn't noticed that the clouds had grown so heavy while you were so out of it. You could only focus on the grass under you and the flowers beside you. But now your focus was on your captain.
"Levi?" You croaked.
"You're fine, got it? You're..." He raised his hand, covered in blood. That definitely wasn't titan blood. "You're gonna be okay, do you hear me? Stay alive, (Y/N). That's an order!"
He picked you up in his arms, trying to figure out some way to hold you and operate his gear without damaging your already-existing injury. Thankfully the darkness and rain was deterring any impending Titan attacks, so he didn't have to worry about being eaten at the moment.
"Levi..." you whispered.
"Yes?" His full attention was on you. "What do you need?"
You smiled. "Thank you for saving me."
