I woke up tied to a chair, with no memory of how I got there. I looked around the room, it was empty except for a shelf up against the wall farthest from me. The shelf held the only source of light, a candle, along with some rope and a photo of a happy family, a mother and father with a little girl. I didn't know how long it had been since I last ate or had water. My stomach growled at the thought, as I continued to struggle against the rope. My wrists bled as my bonds dug deeper into my skin, but I refused to let the pain defeat me.

After several painful hours I stopped. As tears streamed down my face I took a closer look at the objects sitting on the shelf. My eyes drifted to the burning candle, then the glowing flame. I started wriggling in my seat until I finally heard the chair screech against the cold floor beneath me. After a seemingly endless hour of making my way to the shelf I let myself breath for a moment before placing my wrists above the warm flame. Although the rope started to burn, I had to pull away after the flame bit into my skin. I stared at the candle, then the rope and finally the picture. The glass reflected my tearstained face. My normally bright blue eyes had lost their look of wonder as they hid beneath my dark hair that lay in tangles. I would not allow myself to die here, i told myself before slamming my head into the frame. I bit my tongue as the glass cut my face. Carefully I took hold of the largest shard of glass and started to cut the rope. After a few minutes I had managed to free myself.

Quickly I ripped two pieces of fabric from my tank top and tied a piece to each wrist. I stared at the makeshift bandages, they would have to do. After finding the door locked I began my search. My heart sank, there was nothing useful. I put my hands in my pockets as I examined my options. Suddenly I felt a tiny object hidden deep with in my jean pockets. I removed my left hand to find a bobby pin between my fingers. Carefully I slid the hair accessory into the key hole. After hearing the satisfying 'click' I pushed the door open.
