For a moment everything seemed to freeze, the wind slowed to a slight breeze, the birds stopped chirping, though only for a second. I was thrown to the ground. The beast stood over me, my vision became blurry as blood started to pour from my head, a rock lay beneath my throbbing skull. In a panic I grabbed whatever I could find. I hit the wolf with a twig, just to find that my actions had only enraged the monster. I struggled under his weight. Useless.

Before I could try another method of protection, he bit into my shoulder, causing a  high pitched scream to escape my lips. Quickly I removed the rock from underneath me and slammed it into his jaw. At first his face held peer shock, then fear. The wolf ran deep into the woods. I remained silent, trying to grasp the situation. I didn't move until dawn. My hands shook as I tore yet another piece of cloth from my shirt. I flinched as the fabric touched my open wound. I quickly tied the ends of fabric together, forming another bandage. I began my journey once more.
