Loki spent the next week avoiding Cassandra. It was not fair to her, but he did not know how to process what happened. He only meant to kiss her to startle her out of her vision. Often, he caught himself gazing through the mirror wall while she slept, fantasizing about kissing her again. Touching her. Driving her into a frenzy of passion, her bare skin sliding against his.
Loki missed the teasing flirtation between friends that did not mean anything. Everything had changed. The rules of the game blown to pieces by a single kiss.
Loki wished to shrug it off and pretend like the kiss never happened. But he knew that was not possible. So, he avoided Cassandra.
His new strategy worked enormously well until he watched her training with Wong one day in the library. The monk left to deal with some issue leaving his student alone to finish the spell.
Cassandra formed a ball of fire in her hand. Delight washed across her face at this latest accomplishment. Her fingers simmering, she did a little shimmy, wiggling her hips in victory. "I did it! I did it!"
An involuntary grin spread across Loki's face as he watched her dance, throwing the fire ball back and forth between her hands. A warm glow uncurled in his chest. She was too adorable.
In a reckless motion, the fireball left her hand and exploded against Wong's desk, setting his stack of papers on fire. "Oh shit!" Cassandra raced frantically to put the fire out, rapidly spitting out the counter spell.
Smoke curled up from the charred stack she patted with her hands. "He's going to kill me!" She moaned slumping over the desk, her long hair spilling over her shoulders in an auburn wave.
Loki chuckled when a disappointed pout pursed her lips. Unable to contain himself, he emerged into the main reality and swept Cassandra into his arms, dipping her back for a kiss.
Gripping his shoulders, Cassandra responded enthusiastically.
Pinning her against the desk, Loki kissed a trail down her neck to the open collar of her shirt, her skin silken beneath his lips. Cassandra giggled. "What's gotten into you? I like it!"
Loki slanted his mouth over hers, bracing an arm across her lower back. He could get use to this. He thought drowsily.
Horror crept over him at the realization. Loki tore himself away from Cassandra. He stared at her for a second then vanished into the Mirror Dimension.
On the other side, Cassandra balled her hands into fists. "Are you going to do that every time?"
Loki left the library retreating to their shared quarters. He spent the next hour pacing around the room his head churning. His patented lack of self-control was working against him now. His desire for Cassandra was the ultimate trap. One he could not escape.
Eventually Loki sat at the desk and opened the laptop computer hoping for a distraction. Cassandra had left her email open and she had a new message from Stark.
"Oh shit." Loki said echoing Cassandra's earlier words.
The Flerken had eaten the librarian. Tony was furious and demanded Cassandra contact him immediately. Loki warned her about the danger the Flerken posed. Cassandra hadn't listened.
The librarian treated Cassandra horribly. Loki did not regret the woman's death. However, this presented quite a conundrum for his little vixen. He responded back to Stark with a curt message.
'Cassandra is busy training. Save the news for later.'
Somehow, Stark knew the message was from Loki. He responded back immediately. 'I don't care, sideshow. A woman is dead because Ms. Pierce failed to reveal the truth about her pet. Strange came by and collected the creature.'
