It was just another beautiful spring day in Tokyo. The Sakura trees were in full bloom, coating the atmosphere with its sweet scent and diplaying such an eye catching sight. Amidst this pleasant environment, looking out at the gorgeous scenery from the back window of his class was a fairly short, black haired and ocean blue eyed boy. He sat alone in his class, away fron the rest of the students, isolated. It was lunch break at the time. The boy looked at the three 100¥ coins in his palm and gave out a sigh. He looked towards the door to his class with a hopeful look. While the rest of the class was engrossed in their own conversations, the boy took the chance to slip out of the class, but as he reached the door he was stopped by another boy. The boy was a bit taller than him and wore glasses. On his right arm he wore a cloth that read "class representative" on it. He looked at the boy and with a rather expressionless look.
"Where are you going?" He asked plainly.
"....to the... cafeteria" replied the other boy in resentment.
By then, the other students also had their attention on the two boys. One of the students then made a sarcastic grin.
"Yo class rep! Better keep a good watch on demon boy there!" He said.
"Who knows what he'll do if you let him out of your sight" said another.
The class rep, Gakuto Murakami, eyed the students for a moment and then just brushed them off after a slight frown. He turned his attention back to the so-called "demon boy" otherwise known as Tobi Kaneko.
"Did you not bring your lunch again?" He asked.
Tobi just gave a slight nod while looking at the ground.
"Come on then, let's get you something to eat" he said with a sigh.
Not willing to argue, Tobi followed the class rep quietly to the cafeteria. When they arrived there, the place was packed with students and teachers of all years. Tobi, who wasn't very fond of crowds decided to stick close to the class rep. When they reached the counter, Gakuto pointed to the list of items in the menu pasted on the wall. Tobi eyed the prices. He took a long time to find something that he could afford but in the end he was left with nothing but a yakisoba bread.
"Hey, I don't mean to offend ya, but you'll need more than that if ya want to get a decent meal here" said Gakuto who noticed the three coins in Tobi's hand.
Tobi kept quiet. He never really talked that much so it made Gakuto a little anxious.
"So hey... you buying that?" Asked Gakuto pointing to the yakisoba bread that Tobi kept his gaze fixed on.
Tobi just gave another silent nod, staring at the ground again.
"Then give me that, I'll go get it for ya" said Gakuto as he took the three 100¥ coins from Tobi's hand and headed for the counter.
"One yakisoba bread please" said Gakuto to the lady at the counter.
"Sure thing" said the old lady flashing a generous smile at Gakuto of which he returned back. The old lady handed Gakuto the yakisoba bread.
"Is this all you're having for your lunch little boy?" She asked with concern.
"No no, this isn't for me actually" said Gakuto shaking his head. He then eyed Tobi still patiently standing behind him. The old lady followed his gaze and placed hers on Tobi as well. But when she did, her eyes widened and her kind expression was overcome by one of disgust.
"Oh you poor thing, are you doing all this for some worthless scum like him?" She asked Gakuto with a look of pity.
Gakuto just smiled half heartedly.
"It's no trouble really, I mean I am the class rep and all so this is my responsibility" he said trying to cool down the topic.
The old lady looked at Tobi once again and flashed him a tight frown.
"You better be greatful you worthless monster" she said in spite.
This had caught the attention of some of the students in the cafeteria. They kept their gazes locked on Tobi, so intensely that it looked like they were going to burn him with just that. To the corner, near the window was a small group of third years. Their attention was also aimed at Tobi. Amongst the group was a silver haired boy, staring at the boy who caught everyone's attention with a curious look on his face. He turned to his other friend who sat next to him and whispered in his ear.
"Hey, who's the kid? Is it just me or has everyone's attention suddenly gone to him?" he asked.
"Dude! You mean you don't know?!" Replied the other boy in surprise.
The silver haired boy just stared at his friend blankly, blinking his eyes rapidly for his reply had just confused him even more. Just then, one of his other friends who was sitting across him leaned forward and whispered to him.
"He's Tobi Kaneko from class 1B, he's known as the "Demon Boy" all over Tokyo, ya gotta have heard of him" he said.
"'Demon Boy'? Never heard of him. And anyway, I transferred here from Germany so I don't really have much of an idea about Japanese celebrities"
"Pfft! 'Celebrity'! Hahah!" Laughed the boy as he fell back to his chair.
"He's more like a wanted criminal on the loose man!" said another boy who was sitting at the opposite corner of the table.
"What are you guys trying say exactly?" Asked the silver haired boy, still not having grasped the entire explanation.
"What we're trying to say here Chebito, is that, simply put, that boy there is nothing but a heartless demon... a murderer" said the boy next to him.
"M-murderer?! Why on earth is he allowed to even attend school yet alone run loose like that then?!" said Chebito in a panic.
"I know, even we're wondering the same thing, just that rumors have it that the government has granted him freedom in exchange of him not murdering anyone, I mean, they can't keep a 13 year old in prison forever, they'll lose their reputation that way" explained the boy in front.
"Gosh, you guys have it real hard then.... I mean having to go to the same school as this guy... um... Tobi Kaneko?" said Chebito.
"Meh, we're used to it. It's actually kinda convenient having him around" said the boy next to Chebito.
"What do you mean?" asked Chebito in confusion.
"This guy, since he's not allowed to lay a hand on us, most guys take advantage of that and use him as an anger-venting tool."said the boy.
Chebito just stared intently, listening to the conversation attentively.
"Most guys bully him and do all sorts of violent things to him, but the strange this is that he doesn't fight back, for being a demon boy, he could always use a bit of his power and at least run away, I mean no one's keeping track of his every move 24/7, but he doesn't."
"It's probably the guilt that's stopping him" said the boy in front with a playful grin on his face.
"True that" said the other boy.
"This way the other innocent students are saved from being meaninglessly bullied so this all works out just fine" finished the boy.
Chebito stared at his friends, speechless as to what he should say to them. He then turned his gaze towards Tobi who was walking out of the cafeteria with Gakuto. His head was still held low and his eyes were covered by his hair so it was hard to tell what kind of expression he was making, but for some reason, Chebito found himslef feeling a spark of pity for him, as if just by looking at his posture he could tell what Tobi was feeling. For now, he dismissed that feeling and turned his attention back to his group.
