- in which rainbow dash decides the [scary] movie for this movie night
──────────── · · · · ♡

you hate horror.

you hate anything that is the slightest bit of terrifying actually. you can't enjoy true crime shows or spooky stories like the rest of your friend group.

you hate scary folktales and can't handle jump scares. the paranormal freaks you out and you're deathly afraid of spiders.

you've been compared to fluttershy far too much and some people still question if you are related.

when rainbow dash wanted to pick the movie for movie night, you were excited about what she had picked out. but after she revealed it was a horror movie, you couldn't help but stiff up for a few minutes too long.

of course, you've never outwardly told your girlfriend about the hatred you had for that particular genre. in fact, you've never really brought it up to any of your friends. but everyone seemed to get the hint after a while—everyone except, apparently, rainbow dash herself. it was known that your girlfriend wasn't the most observant when it came to people—so you didn't blame her. but that didn't stop the overwhelming dread you had for the upcoming film.

rainbow dash set the popcorn down on your coffee table where other various treats were laid as well. she stood up straight to look at you, "i think that's the last of the snacks. i'm gonna go get the dvd!" you stood at the doorway of the living room—legs shaking as you tried to calm down your excessive breathing. it would've been easier if you told rainbow that you couldn't handle the movie, but she loved horror movies. she's the complete opposite of you. you could tell how excited she was for the movie and you didn't want to be selfish for taking that away from her.

so, instead of listening to your previous friendship lessons about honesty, you took a deep breath and sat on the couch—waiting for rainbow dash.

rainbow came back after a few minutes of searching through her bag. she had one of her 'wondercolts' t-shirts on with a pair of shorts. you decided to wear one of rainbow's plain white shirts that was just a little too big for you. usually, you would feel comforted in your girlfriend's soft shirts, but tonight didn't feel like usual.

"i borrowed this dvd from twilight. who knew she liked horror." rainbow exclaimed as she slid the disk in. "you still haven't told me the name of the movie." rainbow dash walked over to the couch you were currently sitting on. "you'll find out," she hummed. you cuddled into rainbow's side as she slung her arm around your shoulders. you hoped she couldn't feel your shaking or the way your heart was pounding against your chest.

the movie began to play and your grip on rainbow's shirt tightened. you were fighting the urge to close your eyes and just not watch the movie.

maybe your grasp on your girlfriend's shirt was too tight—because rainbow looked down at you curiously before she began to speak, "you know, we don't have to watch the movie if you aren't up for it."

you panicked and hastily shook your head while looking up at her, "no, no, i'm okay! the movie seems cool so far!" your frenzied behavior only made rainbow more skeptical and she hesitantly hummed in response.

rainbow dash began to rub soothing patterns into your arm—it was an unconscious habit she had that always seemed to calm you. she wasn't the most affectionate out in public due to her wanting to remain "cool", however, this was one of the subtle ways she was soft with you—and you felt yourself visibly relax.

the movie turned out to be a simple slasher film with the main friend group currently being split up in a house. every time the characters did something dumb, rainbow made a sarcastic remark... and every time the music picked up, your face became less and less visible as you buried yourself in rainbow dash's side.

you were watching as one of the friends was trying to turn the power back on. there was an obvious jump scare ahead and you were not prepared. your heartbeat began to pick up again and every creak in your house made you slightly jump. the killer was in frame and the character screamed—which tipped you over the edge.

you screamed just as loud—maybe even louder—and buried your face in rainbow's shirt. rainbow dash immediately pressed pause and focused on you. her face was full of worry and she held you by your shoulders. "what's wrong?!" her eyes were soft as they stared at your somewhat teary ones.

you cautiously opened your eyes to look back at her. you could tell just how worried you made her and you knew that your fears couldn't be a secret forever. "i'm sorry, rainbow. i know how much you wanted to watch this—i just... can't handle horror."

rainbow dash sighed and softly smiled at you, "i told you we didn't have to watch it. you're way more important than some silly movie." you lightly smiled too and she pulled you into a hug—a comforting hug that was long overdue since this whole thing started.

she let you go and turned off the movie, "now, do you want to watch that disney movie that just came out?" you felt your shoulders drop and your body relax. "i would love that."

you both cuddled back onto the couch and the signature disney theme came on. rainbow dash was the one to hold you tighter this time and she rested her head on yours. you had a feeling twilight's dvd wasn't going to be delivered back to her that night.

neither you nor rainbow dash cared.
