Let's focus on Tayo shall we?
Enjoy!

I have decided to go to NYU instead of Harvard for reasons best known to me. Mum and Dad don't just object please. This will really make me happy and a happy me is a better me.

This sudden change of heart has to do with a woman friend who is she Tayo?
Kai can't a man make a move without it being a woman thing  Nawa o wahala o. (Problems everywhere). The truth is New York has a nice  natural amusement park plus the weather is top notch on winter and during summer.

My best is actually autumn. However; I prefer a state university for a change. That way, I could associate with normal people not just rich kids or the pretenders on scholarship looking for who will foot there bills after the program. I'm not cut out for unnecessary stress nor drama.

I am a full fleshed Yoruba, Nigerian man and we don't do rubbish because we have a culture to uphold with ancestors to make proud. Again, if it is a woman will it be that bad eh? Am I supposed to please a man?

Mind your words Young Man. We are still your parents remember? Perhaps you need to stay one more year before traveling. This is because of the experience they'll require from you in your course of study and my friend is willing to employ you in his Petroleum company.

You are supposed to go for the interview next week Monday which is five days from now. I would have said come work for me but I deal with Administration not Natural sciences.

Son, trust me when I say it's best to stick with your kind (Africans) when you go to New York. The white man will always see us as second class citizens anywhere we are. Even if we become rich and famous, they'll never acknowledge how smart and hardworking we are.

Understood my dear father. Thank you for your words of wisdom and Mum thanks for always being there for me. I got mad love for you both no matter how old I get.

We know son. We will always love you even after you must  have had your own kids. I'd love to speak to you in the evening. I need to go and scan my certificates then, forward it to the company.

Two hours later, Tayo comes home famished, his Mum notices and smiles at him. He reciprocates before greeting.

Good evening mamacita your baby boy is tired and hungry abeg (please) what's for dinner.
You're welcome back son. It's Ewedu and Amala with gbegiri..
Yummy 😋🤤 I'll be down in twenty minutes.

Tayo freshens up fast. He rushes down for dinner. After eating, he cleared the plates from the dinning room. Coming out from the kitchen Mrs Adeji holds her son's hand and drags him to the sitting room to have that talk.

So son I heard you say Nyu. Tell me, what's really in New York City?
Mum, I, um, okay? let me put it this way. Love and work calls. I can't forsake or foreshadow one for the other.

I'm still young so you need not worry about me knocking someone's daughter up without marrying her first.

That's good to hear my son. I hope you know what you're doing. Please do right by us when you travel next year. I'm glad you are thinking ahead. It shows how responsible and grown you are.

God bless you son, I love you and goodnight.

Night night Mum, I love you too.
