*Isabella's POV*
"This movie is actually based off my favorite book." he said while giving off an uncontrolled smile.
I think this was the first time I ever saw Miles smile. He was so excited that he didn't even realize that he was smiling.
His eyes were practically sparkling as he gave such a captivating smile. It was cute.
"What?" he asked, after catching a glimpse of me staring.
"Nothing, it's just that you have a nice smile. You should smile more." I said to him with a smile after contracting it from his contagious one.
He looked at me for a while. Our eyes stayed glued to each other for a little while. I couldn't help but feel a few pins and needles in my stomach from his gaze.
His smile slowly faded and within a matter of seconds and his expressionless face was back on. I could tell something was keeping him away from happiness.
Clearing his throat, he got up and walked to the door.
"I'm going downstairs to pop some popcorn before the movie starts. If you want one you can join me."
I nodded my head and followed him downstairs.
...
While waiting for our popcorns to pop, I couldn't help but wonder why Miles stopped smiling after I gave him the compliment. Lately I've been feeling quite comfortable in asking questions so why stop now.
"Why'd you stop smiling earlier?"
Taken off-guard by my sudden inquiry, he stared at me in shock. Before he could answer my question, my phone rang. I guess he was saved by the ringtone.
"Hey Tessa!" I said giving a pleasant smile although she couldn't see me.
I watched as Miles spit out the water he had just put in his mouth. Ignoring his strange behavior I return my attention back to Tessa. At this point I should just get used to how unpredictable he was.
"Where are you? I didn't get you on your cell so I called your mom and she said that you weren't home."
"Yeah, because of the weather I'm actually stuck at Mi-"
Before I could finish my sentence, Miles slapped his hand over my mouth.
"What are you doing?" I mumbled under his hand.
He slowly removed his hand and whispered to me "don't tell her you're here".
In the same manner I asked "why?".
"Just do it."
"Hello, are you still there Issy?" Tessa said on the other line.
"Yes, I was saying that I was stuck at my grandma's. I'm sorry but I have to go." I said as I quickly ended the call. I was too ashamed to continue talking to her after I just blindly lied to her.
"What was that about?" I shouted out.
"Nothing, just forget about it."
"You made me lie to my bestfriend for nothing?"
He stayed quiet as he took our popcorns out the microwave.
I trailed behind him back to his room and we watched the movie in silence. I gave him occasional glances to see if he smiled again but he never did. His sudden change in behavior made me curious but I let it go.
The movie finished in about a hour and a half. It was really good after all. It was about two teenagers falling in love, quite cliché but still romantic. Miles said that this was his favorite book but I couldn't image him liking romantic novels. His personality and romance just didn't match.
"You're staring at me again." he said as I zoned back into reality.
"I wasn't really looking at you. I zoned out sorry." I said.
Technically I wasn't lying. I was zoned out and thinking about him not looking.
He stayed silent as he took off his shirt and crawl into his bed sheets.
I quickly turned away out of respect.
"Are you going to sleep so early? It's only 9." I asked while still having my back turned to him.
He stayed quiet for a while, it seemed like he was either thinking or just wasn't going to reply to me as always.
"What else do you want us to do?" he asked with a triggered tone. His attitude was really starting to get on my nerves but I managed to remain calm.
"There is always something to do." I said while walking around his room looking for anything interesting.
"Yeah sure make yourself at home." Miles said. His arms were crossed as he sat up and let his eyes follow me.
"Oh, trust me I made myself at home the very first time your mom made me stay for dinner." I said as I spotted some cards hided away under some clothes.
"I think I found that something we've been looking for." I said while throwing the cards at him.
"Watch it nerd!" he shouted while rubbing the injured area.
"Before we start, let's make a deal. Whoever wins gets to decide what we watch after this game." I said, knowing it'll be a win win either way for us since it appears we have the same taste in genres.
Probably thinking the same Miles agreed and we began.
We played 4 rounds and we each won 2. We needed one more round for one of us to finally break the tie.
Looking at my cards I could only hope Miles had worse than mine. I took a glance over to him, only to see him looking at his cards in deep concentration.
"You're staring again." he said while connecting his eyes to mine.
I looked away.
"Good game." he said while placing his last card in front of me.
Completely shocked at how he tricked me I stayed still as he picked up the remote.
"I'm in the mood for some horror. I hope you don't scare easily nerd girl." he said while flipping through the horror movies.
My mine processed that we were going to be watching a horror movie.
If there was one thing I hated more than musicals, it was be horror. I can't bear watching anything that even slightly scary.
"Yeah that's fine, I love horror."
I didn't want Miles to know so I lied. I was afraid he would use it as a weakness against me. For the rest of the night, I stayed quiet and bit my lips every time there was a pop up scene to prevent myself from screaming. Before I knew it I slowly drifted off to dreamland.
