*Isabella's POV*
"Bella, Tessa's here!" I heard my mom shout from downstairs.
I quickly picked up my bag and headed downstairs. We didn't have school today since tonight was the big football match the football team had been training for. It was against our rivalry school, Ravenwood high.
Each year our football team would win but the Raven's would always come close to winning. Their coach had made a public announcement that they wouldn't lose this year. I think it got under the coach's skin hence why he was giving the football team a hard time.
Tessa promised me she'd spend the day with me and then tonight we would go to the match together. I wasn't really in the mood to be in a large crowd watching football but Tessa begged me since her dad wouldn't have made her go alone.
"Good morning sunshine. Ready to go?" she asked giving me one of her angelic smiles. Sometimes I wondered how I'd ended up getting such a wonderful bestfriend.
I nodded my head and followed her to the car.
My mind kept going back to yesterday. I kind of felt guilty. I made Miles think that I was mad at him for not wanting to be anything with me but he was wrong. Yes I was a little sad but I wasn't mad at him. I was only mad at myself for liking him.
"You're quiet. Tell me what's on your mind Issy." Tessa said with quivering lips as she drove.
"I think I'm falling for someone I can't be with." I blurted out. I had to admit saying that out loud made me feel like a burden was just lifted off my chest.
"Who? Is it our Math teacher because-"
I zoned out as I recall her warning me about Miles. I was already disappointed in myself and if Tessa found out she would make me feel 10 times worse.
"Are you even listening to me?" she continued as I zoned back in.
"I'm sorry what was that?"
"I asked who was it."
"It's just someone in why class."
"Is it Miles?" she asked without hesitation.
"No."
"Are you and Miles friends?" she asked with all seriousness in her voice.
"No." I wasn't lying about that one.
"Good you should keep it that way Issy." she said as she pulled into a parking space. "We're here!"
I unbuckled my seatbelt and took a step out the car. Sitting in front of me was a giant mall. I could only imagine it had 100 stores the least. This was the first time I've ever came here. We had to drive out of state since Millersville didn't have a mall.
"What are you waiting? Let's go!" Tessa exclaimed with her brightest smile yet. I couldn't help but smile as well.
As we walked in we could hear a hubbub echoing across the mall.
"Let's go in here first!" she said while running into a store like when a child sees their present on Christmas day.
I hastened my pace so I could keep up with her.
"We're going to be buying outfits for later. If that boy you like is at the game tonight he'll definitely regret not asking you out already." she said as she held a dress in front of me.
We looked through some more stores before we found our outfits and left.
...
"How does this look?" Tessa asked while fixing herself in the mirror.
After we had finished from the mall we went straight to her house since we got stuck in an hour long traffic on the way back.
Her hair was up in a ponytail and she had on Troy's old jersey with a jeans and a sneakers.
"You look perfect." I said as I glanced at myself in the mirror.
For some reason I was feeling nervous. I was wearing an oversized shirt that is our school's colour with a jeans and sneakers just like Tessa.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine. You look great! Let's get going." Tessa said while giving me a hug. Her words were comforting enough to make me feel less nervous. We both got in her car and reached to school in no time.
...
The crowd was bigger than I thought it would be and the noise was deafening. I had already regretted coming here.
"Let's go find a seat." Tessa said as she dragged me up the stairs.
When we arrived the match was nearly over and according to the scoreboard it was a tie between the Ravens and the Millers. We spotted an empty space and squeezed ourselves in. This last round would determine if our school's fate.
I watched as the coach called the team for a meeting.
"All of you are disappointments. How could you let them come this close to winning again?" he shouted as he turned to Miles. "And Norman, what kind of captain are you? You were suppose to have won this already. You're the worst disappointment of them all. If this team loses I'll quit and it'll be all your fault." he ended and walked away.
I watched as Miles clenched his fist tightly while his team waited for him to instruct them. I felt bad for him. If that was the coach's way of a motivating speech he sure did the opposite. After a minute he told them something and they all ran back out on the field in unison.
The referee blew his whistle and the match began again. The center threw the ball to Miles then he threw it to Troy.
"Let's go baby!" I heard Tessa shout. I chuckled at her supportiveness towards her boyfriend. I admired that.
All eyes were on Troy as he ran as fast as he could with others trailing behind him. One of the members from the opposing team tackled him then stole the ball.
Miles quick to retrieved it then scored the goal.
Touchdown.
The crowd screamed. I could swear they blew out on of my ear drums.
Tessa held my hand and she dragged down the stairs and unto the field. As soon as she spotted Troy she ran to him and gave him a long hug while I stood and watched.
While standing there I couldn't help but glance over at Miles. There was all kind of girls surrounding and taking pictures with him as if he was a celebrity. I saw him glance over to me and our eyes locked.
Paralyzed under his gaze once again, I zoned out everyone that was in our path. I felt like it was only him and I in the world. Although he had just won the match and everyone was celebrating him his face looked sad. Before I could figure him out anymore he looked away and give his attention back to the girls.
"What was that all about?" Tessa asked as she and Troy walked over to me.
Not knowing what lie to come up with I shrugged my shoulders.
Tessa said her goodbyes to Troy then took me home.
