(Wari)
‘The crown prince is down in the living room asking my father for my hand in marriage. My mission has succeeded and I’ll be queen. I’ll kill the prince after the wedding and destroy the royal family from the inside. Then I’ll ascend the throne as the reigning queen and completely change the way this kingdom runs. I’ll make a large public school for lower-class citizens to be educated and the age for entering the military will be raised to the age of 18, in case a woman has only one boy, he will not go to the military. Human slavery will be completely prohibited. And then I’ll shut down the bar Siren works at just for fun.’
Wari fantasies in her head, while pacing around her room waiting for the knock on the door congratulating her for becoming future princess.
The knock comes an hour or so later, Wari swings open the door like a hungry beast, ready to devour the news. The head butler of the Corvus manor looks at Wari with a proud look on his face, a smile filling his face and causing his wrinkles to deepen.
“Congratulations, Lady Darlene-” The head butler starts as he moves aside for Wari to move out of the door. Wari hurries past him but stops mid-walk as she sees Prince Arden at the door of her sister’s room, kissing Isabella’s the back of Isabella’s hand, “-your sister is going to be His Highness’s future wife and queen.”
Wari’s eyes widened in shock, but in a split second, she immediately buried her fury, anger, shock and disappointment in the deep well inside her.
Don’t show it.
She repeats in her head.
Be a lady.
Darlene puts on a smile and stays at her place, not daring to move an inch, afraid that she’ll break in front of the prince.
“Congratulations, Bella. I’m so happy for you.” Wari says, not daring to show any emotion but happiness. ‘I was supposed to be in your place, you traitor.’ She thinks in her head, hoping the words reach Isabella.
Isabella swivels her head from gazing at the crown prince’s and her interlocked hands to look at her older sister, her eyes filled with her deep guilt and loneliness.
“Darly! I-I-“,Isabella tries to start but chokes on her words, realizing the prince is still next to her. She lowers her head down, her hands still held by Arden.
‘That bastard prince! Damn you!’ Darlene curses viciously in her mind.
“Congratulations, Your highness. I hope you live happily with my dear sister.” Wari says, using all her self-control not to drop the smile from her face. She curtsies then turns around, abruptly saying, “I have a headache coming up. I’ll be in my room. No one disturbs me.” She says to the head butler before heading into her room.
As soon as she closes the door. Wari looks at herself in the mirror. “Was all the things I did not enough? Two years of planning, gone. All because of my- ugh.” Darlene groans as she swings her hand across a vase that falls to the floor with a loud crash.
“What do I do now? What if Master punishes me like he did to Siren?” Darlene shudders at the memory of the small and broken figure of Siren, a dagger forcefully shoved in her two-year-old scar. Her screams are still echoing in Wari’s head.
