"So she wants you back?" I asked, my heart pounding with mixed emotions.
"Yeah." He replied, his tone conveying indifference.
"That's good! So our plan worked." I forced a smile, hiding the ache inside.
"I guess."

"But I just need to ask." I mustered the courage, knowing it was now or never.
He looked at me, his eyes waiting for my question.

"Can't it just be me? The one inside your heart?" I pleaded, pointing to his chest.

He shrugged, his gesture sending a wave of disappointment crashing over me.
"I guess that means no." I winced, feeling the sting of rejection.
"Don't you like me?" I asked, the words escaping my lips even though I knew the answer.

"No." His reply pierced through my heart, shattering the fragile hope I held onto.
"It's fine, I know you're happier with her." I forced another smile, hiding my true feelings.
