Amber woke up super early to get ready. She straightened her slightly wavy hair, used the straightener to style her bangs, did her makeup, and put one of her new sweaters with her old favorite jeans despite the new jeans she had gotten the previous day.
Amber wasn't usually a morning person but on the first day of school she had so much excitement and energy that she could get up as early as she wanted. This year she was even more excited for three reasons: 1. The start of high school, 2. Going to the same school as her siblings again, which she always loved, 3. Probably meeting the Ducks and maybe even being on the same team as them.
Amber ran downstairs once she was ready. She grabbed 2 waffles and put them in the toaster. There was 20 minutes left until Cassandra would take Amber and Henry to school. She had plenty of time. Amber was waiting for her waffles when her mom walked in.
"Hey my little high schooler! Good morning, sunshine!" She said excitedly.
Amber playfully rolled her eyes, "Hi mom, good morning!"
"God, I can't believe you're all in high school already. My three little babies!" Mrs. Newton continued being sentimental and being like a mom.
Amber just laughed it off, not really knowing what to say. She was surprised how quickly her last year of 8th grade went and how quickly she had become a high schooler too.
Just then, Amber's waffles popped up. She grabbed them from the toaster and ran to the phone. "I'm gonna call Grace," she said to her mother.
Mrs. Newton started to exit the kitchen but turned before she was completely gone. "Have a great day, honey. I love you so much," she smiled.
"I love you, Mom." Amber replied.
Mrs. Newton was gone so Amber dialed the number belonging to Grace's house phone.
"Hey, Amber!" She said excitedly when she picked up. "We're starting high school today!"
"I know! I'm so excited... and a little nervous!" Amber said.
"Me too."
"You know what I'm really excited for?" Amber asked her best friend.
"THE DUCKS!" The two girls said in unison and laughed happily.
"Jeez, you're gonna make my head explode with all that screaming." Henry said walking into the kitchen.
"You can't pretend you aren't excited too." Amber said in a slightly annoyed voice.
"Yeah, it's cool but you're... too much." Henry said.
"I always am! I'm extra and I think that's kinda known." She replied smiling.
"Yup. It's definitely known. But you're probably just so excited cause of Charlie." Henry teased.
Amber looked a little mad at this point. "Shut up! It's not my fault he's insanely hot."
"Ooooh! Amber, do you have a crush on Charlie Conway?" Henry teased, yet again.
"No, I don't even know him... yet anyways." Amber said smiling.

Amber and her older siblings arrived at school 10 minutes before it started. Amber immediately ran to meet Grace, Bradley, and Ross at the front entrance.
She had already had a first day of school talk in the car. Cassandra said, "No matter what, stay true to who you are. High school is way easier than you'd think. Like really easy. It's also pretty fun!"
Henry just nodded a slow no as she spoke. "Cass, that's for you. The pretty popular girl gets everything really easily." he said with an attitude. Then, turning to Amber, he spoke again. "High school isn't much different from middle school but there's definitely more work, especially here. It's not terrible but it's not easy. Cass is right about the be you thing though. It's no fun hiding from everyone. Just try to make a lot friends and I'm sure you'll make the hockey team and that'll help. You can be friends with the ducks and Charlie!" The way he said Charlie in a teasing way made Amber a little angry. She slapped his arm jokingly and glared at him.
Once Amber arrived at the entrance to meet her friends she spoke, partly out of breath from running over to them. "Hey guys! Cassandra was kinda taking forever, sorry."
"It's cool! Ready to go?" Ross asked nervously.
"Yup." Amber stated.
They walked into the school that would be where they went for the next four years...
