Winter nights sucked, even though you lived in California. It's nice during the day, sure, but after the sun sets and the wind starts blowing it's a completely different story. You had to suck it up though, it wasn't like you could control the weather and there was no other choice then to sleep out in the open.
Your hair was an utter mess, you were shivering, you were hungry, and you were tired. You wanted to go back home, but you were already to far into the hole you had dug for yourself. 'Maybe there's a homeless shelter near here' , But did you really want to go to one? You wouldn't know any of the people there, and although you didn't want to stereotype, you thought about how maybe the some of the men there would be a little, creepy, to say the least.
About a week ago you were kicked out of the house, even though you had no skills for living on your own, and you were only ten, your parents still forced you to live on the streets. It was punishment for forgetting to do some of your chores. But that really was only one part of it, you were unplanned and your parents had told you multiple times that you were a "financial burden" even though all of you were fine when it came to money. But whatever, it wasn't like things could get any worse. Right?
It started to rain.
"Shit!" you shouted as the sky was lit up by thunder. There wasn't any sort of shelter anywhere around here. So you picked up your backpack and went to search for a place to stay for the night. 'This isn't fair!' , you thought, 'nothing is ever fair for me! no matter how hard I try nothing works out in the end. Not my chores, not my parents, and now the weather-'
"UGH!" you shoved your face into the backpack and screamed. You just wanted to be warm for once. You thought that maybe if you had done your chores maybe your parents wouldn't be hopping mad for once and would have let you stayed. But in the back of your mind, you knew that wasn't true, they would've kicked you out at one point or another, no matter what you did to please them. Was your fate just this? Always getting blown over by life when you were starting to get used to it? That's what it looked like.
After walking for sometime you found shelter in an unknown neighborhood. It was under the awning of a store front. You laid down using your bag as a pillow and prayed to god you wouldn't get in trouble with whoever owned the place when you would eventually wake.
