Bdubs grabs my hand as he passes, and I stumble forward, managing one quick glance back at the enemy, who hasn't moved yet.
They're in full knight's armour, a flaming plume out the back and made of a dark metal. Underneath their helmet is blonde hair, and they're holding a black sword. They grin more, stepping forward.
'How are you all doing?' He asks. I look over at Bdubs, who's still clutching my hand. No one answers the knight's question.
'I thought you were going to kill us.' Tango notes.
'Oh, not yet. That was just for dramatic effect. You know, something cool for the end of the chapter.'
'The end of the... what?' I frown back at the others.
'The end of the chapter. This is a book you know. And I love cliffhangers. I also love pushing people off actual cliffs too. It's fun to hear their screams fade away as they fall. Anyway, how are all of you doing?'
'He's always like this.' Impulse explains through gritted teeth, clearly trying not to attack. 'Thinking this is a book, talking like the psychopath he is.'
'Psychopath? Oh wow, thank you! I've always wanted to be one! It's just my brother that slows me down.'
At the word brother, Tango glances over at Impulse. I back towards them, hoping for some protection against this insane knight.
'We share a body, you see. Sometimes he comes out, sometimes it's me... he always messes up everything. But I'm here now, and you're about to die if you don't tell me who you are.'
'I'm...'
'Not going to tell you anything.' Impulse interrupts me with a snarl. 'Get away from us before I kill you,'
'I thought we were the ones supposed to kill you... well, well, well... how the turntables.'
'SHUT UP!' Impulse lunges for the knight, only stopped by Tango.
'Panic, calm down!'
'NO!'
'PANIC!' Impulse breaks free of his hold, charging straight at the knight. He's easily stopped, and falls against the wall after one strike back from them. The knight's cheerful face drops.
'Don't try and kill me. You know it won't work out.'
Tango's at his friend's side in an instant. I hold out my dagger to the knight.
'I'm Hels, by the way.'
'Get away from my friends.' I reply, trying to seem threatening. Hels laughs.
'Oh, how sweet. Little bird boy wants to kill me.'
'SHUT UP, SMELLS!' I yell, guiltily pleased at how fast I'd come up with the nickname.
'You know it's rude to call people names...'
'Says you.' I run towards him, and manage to hit him, only really because it was a surprise. Blood flows down his arm, and Hels looks between the cut and me. It's my turn to smile, and his quickly turns into a glare. He shifts his position, before running at me. I dodge, but not fast enough. His blade catches my already-useless wing, slicing it clean off.
Agony flashes through me like lightning and I scream, clutching the wound, tears in my eyes. Hels comes in again, sword raised to strike again when Zedaph barrels me against the wall, blocking the blade with his shield. I'm left panting on the ground as Hels tears out his weapon, eyes aflame with fury. He slices again, but Zedaph grabs for his sword, brutally kicking the knight in the stomach and wrestling it out of his grasp. From my angle I can see everything - Impulse still on the floor, now topless with a horrible gash down his front. Tango, desperately trying to stop the incessant bleeding with the torn-off t-shirt. Bdubs is next to them, sword out and waiting for the right time to help Zedaph, who's now got Hels pinned to the ground, the knight's own sword pointed at him. And next to me, Etho is aiming an arrow right at Hels too. The floor's slick with blood, more splattering the walls. Zed's somehow the only one of us not also stained with the redness.
'SURRENDER. NOW.' The Brit jabs at Hels with the sword, and the knight whines back.
'Don't kill me... the author wants me to be in a later chapter...'
'I DON'T CARE. SURRENDER AND NEVER COME BACK.'
'But... but...'
'If you attack, I'll shoot you.' Etho warns. I get to my feet, nodding in agreement.
'Then you'll have all of us to deal with.'
Hels glances around all of us, before looking back at Zed. Jumping back to his feet, the knight grabs Zed by the next, attempting to strangle him, his only form of weapon remaining.
'ETHO SHOOT.' The Brit barely forces out. 'NOW.'
The arrow flies through the air, as Hels shoves Zed away, running. The blonde turns, eyes widening as the projectile hits right
into
his
neck.
Shorter chapter... yay...
I literally had no inspiration for this.
Enjoy?
Also, I've finished making a third life animatic.
