I woke up late this morning. Probably because I didn't get enough sleep last night. I wasn't tired at all, and I was up reading my favourite book nearly the whole night - Charlotte's Web. Damian came into my room to wake me up, but it was no use, as I was a heavy sleeper. He tells me I snore too loudly, but I think he's lying.

Anyway, I packed my lunch as fast as I could, and sped out of the door before Damian.

"Hey, wait up!" He yelled, but I continued running.

"Cass, I don't want you getting hurt!"

"I'm fine, Dam! Nothing's gonna happen to me!"

I looked back at him while running, and tripped over a rock. I slid on the grass, scraping my arm. As usual he "came to the rescue".

"CASSIE!"

He ran up to me and grabbed my right arm.

"Oh my goodness, Cass, you're bleeding!"

"Okay, so? It just burns a -ow- little bit."

"Don't worry, I've got something that could help."

He took out some (lots) of tissues from his backpack and dabbed it onto where I was bleeding. It looked pretty bad, and it was burning excessively. I was squinting my eyes in pain as he wrapped some tissues around my arm and secured it with tape. He's got a whole ambulance in his bag!

When we got to school, Damian told me to take it easy on my arm, and not to use it too much. I agreed and thanked him for his help.

"See ya, Cass!"

"Bye, Damian!" I waved him goodbye as he left the school. He goes to an all-boys school called Norman S. High. They have really strict teachers, and Damian told me their tests are extremely difficult.

I spotted Tina with some other girls at the bathroom area. I'd never seen those girls before. Maybe they were new there, and she was helping them adapt?

I waved to her, but she didn't see me. I walked up to them to try and get a closer look. Yeah, none of them looked familiar.

"Uh, hey Tina!" I waved to her again.

"Oh, hi Cassie! So you might be wondering who these girls are?"

"Yep." I chuckled.

"Well, they're... hey, what happened to your arm?!"

"No, nothing. I just scraped it. Anyway, who are they?"

"They're new girls to this school and they're joining our class! Isn't that amazing?"

"Y-yeah, okay." I never thought she would be so interested in new girls.

*bell rings*

They (including Tina) just walked right past me as if I wasn't there. For three new girls, she seemed to really like them.

After school finished, I saw Tina at the Checkerboard Area. She was talking to those girls as if they were her best friends. She was laughing - a lot. I didn't bother going up to her, because I wasn't in the mood for any drama. If there was gonna be.

I saw Damian at the gates and walked to him, trying to hide myself from Tina by covering my face with my left hand. Damian was on his phone, so he didn't see me.

"Hey, Cass. How's your arm?" said Damian when I got up to him.

I smiled. "It's fine, thankfully."

"That's good."

As we walked along the path, I spotted a baby bird on the road, and there was a massive Jeep driving towards it. I couldn't help watching it trying to fly helplessly - in the middle of the road. The Jeep was getting closer... and I wasn't the type of person who'd just stand there and watch... so I ran.

Damian double-looked me and yelled.

"CASSIE!"

I held the bird, just as Damian grabbed me and rushed back to the path. The man in the car pressed on the brake with his foot immediately as he saw me.

"Hey! Are you INSANE?" He shouted at me.

"Aye, don't talk to my sister like that. It was just an accident." said Damian.

There was a car waiting behind him, and beeping for him to move. "You could've gotten yourself killed, kid!". The man growled and drove off.

"Hey," Damian turned me around. "ARE YOU INSANE?!" He repeated.

"Hey, I can't just let a baby bird die like that! He's got a whole life ahead of him!"

"You could've gotten yourself killed!"

I didn't need to hear that again. I was looking at the little bird, and he looked as stunned as me. He was so cute, his big brown eyes were staring at me and looked so scared. I stroked him softly, trying to comfort him.

"Why would you risk your life for a BIRD?!"

"He isn't just a bird, Damian! Every life matters, even if it's not your own. Even if it's a lonely, helpless bird who is clearly scared for his life and has lost his parents and is in the middle of the road about to lose his life, just because of a careless driver!"

Everyone around us was staring at me like I was dressed in a clown costume. But hey, I was standing up for a bird. I hate it when people say things like that. 'It's just a bird' or ' it's just this' or 'it's just that'. I mean, the bird wasn't put into this world for nothing, just like us. Every animal in this world are equal to us - humans.

...why do I sound so professional? If that's the right word.

"Cassie, why are you screaming?" asked Damian, concerned.

"Uh... I'm sorry for yelling but, you know what I mean don't you?" Damian took one look at the bird, who was safely asleep in my two palms and smiled.

"Yeah, I do."
