Rory's POV

I almost ran home and changed my clothes. I didn't want to leave Jess alone too long with that crowd, they'd eat him alive. But I still wanted to look pretty, so I quickly put on some make-up and put on a pretty dress. Then I ran back to the town square.

Before I went home I had talked to my mom for a moment. She was of course very confused seeing me kiss Jess, so I figured I owed her a quick explanation.

She didn't know the whole story. Of course I didn't have the time to explain her everything then and there, but I told her I'd seen him a couple of times since the last time he visited in Stars Hollow. I told her how he came to Yale to ask me to run away with him, how he visited me to show me the book he had written, how he was the one who convinced me to go back to Yale. She already knew I visited him in Philadelphia, but I never told her I kissed him. I didn't have the time to tell her the details, but she got the overall idea that I never really got over him the way she thought I did.

I told her I loved him and that he would wait for me to come back. I ran away before she could tell me her opinion, because I didn't know if I would like what she had to say.

When I turned around the corner I saw something I really didn't expect. My mom and Jess were hugging? That was something good, right? Or was she trying to suffocate him? It was awkward and short, but it really was a hug. I walked towards them.

"Are my eyes deceiving me or was that really a hug?"

"What?" My mother asked "What's so weird about that? Wha- why are you smiling like that? Stop it!"

I started to laugh out loud. Partly because I was just very happy, partly because Lorelai had put on her most offended expression.

"Okay that's enough. You," my mom pointed at me "I want more details about the whole situation before you leave, okay?"

"And you," she pointed at Jess "I'm watching you and not because you got a cool new hairstyle. Don't think for a second I won't hunt you down and end you if you hurt my daughter again."

"So you like my hair?" He said sarcastically

"Jess, I'm serious."

"Yes ma'am."

————————————————————————

The word spread fast, and after a few minutes everyone in town knew about us. When they saw that Lorelai trusted him again they too tried to give him another chance.

Someone else got another chance too that night. A few hours after our talk I saw my mom and Luke kiss.

"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" I asked Jess who was standing beside me

"Looks like Luke is finally taking my advice."

"You did that?"

"Oh I don't know. I just pointed out that he still had feelings for Lorelai. I mean they belong together."

"Thanks. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my mom happy. And you're right, they were made for each other."

We both turned our heads and gazed into each other's eyes, knowing they weren't the only ones there who were made for each other.

Time flew by so fast. Tomorrow morning I would get on a bus going somewhere far, far away. I would have to leave this beautiful town and all those beautiful people. This beautiful man by my side. Thinking about it made me sick to my stomach, but I knew I would love every minute of it. Nothing, not even him, could keep me tied down. It was time for me to see the world.

I was excited for tomorrow. But that didn't mean I ever wanted this bon voyage party to end. It was the best goodbye I could've ever imagined. But, sadly, it did come to an end.

Slowly, people started to go home. I didn't blame them, it was getting late. I realized even my mom already went home. More and more people started to leave, until Jess and I were the only ones left. I sat down on the steps of the gazebo, Jess followed.

"It's weird isn't it? How time flies by?" Jess asked

I nodded, feeling too sentimental to speak

"Feels like yesterday when we would walk around town together."

"Yeah," I smiled at the many good memories I made here

We were silent for a moment.

"You know where I fell in love with you?" I asked.

"No, tell me."

"There," I pointed to the street in front of the church. "That's where you gave me back my book you stole with all the margins you wrote in it. Remember it?"

"How could I ever forget? But really, that's when you fell in love with me?"

"Yeah, but I didn't want to admit my feelings to myself, so I only realized it much later. And I was still with Dean at the time."

He didn't say anything, he just looked at me. After that we went silent again. But it wasn't an awkward kind of silent, it was comfortable. I could sit there for hours. On the steps of gazebo, in silence, with him.

After a while he started to speak again.

"Can I show you something?"

"Sure, what?"

He jumped of the stairs, holding his hand out to me.
"Come."

"Wha- what are you doing?" I was extremely confused but excited right now.

"Take my hand, I'll show you."

I laughed at his foolish, excited, naughty expression and I took his hand in pure confusion. He then pulled my hand and we started running through the streets like idiots. Like we were 18 again. It really felt like old times.
