"Of corse! Of corse how could we be so slow" Sherlock said pacing around the flat "what is it!" John said stressed. "After that phone call we all thought we should track down that one phone, which we did. The Johnsons knew we'd manage to track it down to the Garden Centre that's why you were attacked it was a trap, they didn't kill you because they wanted us to find you and for us to think they'd made a mistake but they haven't. The Johnson's are careful very careful, they can't buy a bottle of water without consulting one of their bosses never mind buying phones, they'll have a contract with someone, all phones they buy will come off that contract, the phone they used to make the call will have been destroyed but they'll be many more phones under the same contract, we track those phones down, we track down the Johnson's" Sherlock stopped and looked at Lestrade "what do we do now" Lestrade said to him "I need to call my brother" Sherlock said. Lestrade tensed up he still hadn't spoken or seen Mycroft since the hospital "ok" Lestrade said quietly. Mycroft came to bakers street within 15 minutes. Greg went and sat on the sofa pretending to read some papers, he ignored Mycroft when he walked in but he felt Mycroft look at him.
Mycroft saw Lestrade straight away, Lestrade didn't look at him he looked at some files but Mycroft knew he wasn't really reading them. "We need to find out what contract the phone they used to call you is under" Sherlock said "I know I've got people looking into it" Mycroft replied dryly he kept watching Lestrade.
Lestrade felt Mycroft's eyes burning into him. It took all the will power he had to not look up at Mycroft. He was holding onto the papers so hard it was making his broken wrists hurt so he released them and stood up still looking down. He walked into the Kitchen.
Mycroft followed Lestrade into the kitchen. "Hello Lestrade" he said "are you ok" he regretted saying that straight away of corse he wasn't ok Lestrade had been brutally attacked and then he'd broken his heart. Lestrade finally looked at Mycroft. Mycroft looked quite sad and tired he thought. "fine" he said before brushing past him, then he paused "are you?" he looked back at Mycroft. "Yes" Mycroft said then there was a moment of awkwardness between them "how's your arms" Mycroft said pointing at Greg's splints. "Getting better" Greg puffed up his lips into a polite smile. Mycroft contemplated what he was about to say and then said it quickly before Greg walked away from him again "I miss you" Lestrade paused and looked at Mycroft with such hurt Mycroft regretted it so much "I mean it's weird without you at home" he said and then looked at the floor. "Yea well you left me" Greg said sourly, he was about to walk out when he had to say one more thing "I miss you too" then he walked out the kitchen. Mycroft just wanted him back but he was scared, scared of himself, he never wanted to hurt Greg but he had. In so many ways.
Mycroft walked back into to main room and Sherlock was still yelling on the phone and John was quite aggressively sending emails. "Progress?" Mycroft said strongly but he really didn't care he just watched Greg who was just staring out the window. Sherlock continued yelling on his phone call "...what...yes ok that sounds promising.......how many?....what....ok...yes!!!" Sherlock slammed down his phone and smiled at John and Mycroft "we have our lead"
Sherlock and John ran into a taxi outside "wait" Lestrade called out "you can't come Greg, your arms" John said but Greg jumped into the car "screw them". Mycroft got into his own car and watched Lestrade as his driver drove him away. When John and Greg had sat down Sherlock began to explain "they've attached 225 phones on that contract all over Europe but there's 40 of them in London at the moment and 15 of them all seem to be gathering in some unowned grassland" Sherlock was reading off the laptop screen he had on his knees "it's just a bunch of numbers but we've got to get there before they realise they've been tracked".
They arrived at Scotland Yard and the whole office was running around frantically "we need to send people out" Lestrades boss told everyone "we can't all go sir, it's to obvious" everyone looked around at each other and at their laptop screens like they were going to come up with a solution. Sherlock looked at Lestrade "what is it" Lestrade asked him quietly "have you got an idea?" Sherlock looked right into Lestrades eyes and was speaking so softly "I really wish more than anything in this world I could vow to protect everyone I love. But I can't. I've tried before and it didn't work" Lestrade straightened his back "what do you need me to do" Sherlock sighed "I need you to go to the Johnson's" Lestrades forehead crinkled "why?" "They don't want you dead, if they did they would've killed you the last time, your the only person we know they won't kill, so please, I think you should go Greg"
