Chapter Nine

Dakota had been listening to Noshiko's long and very heart wrenching story in the history classroom with Kira, Scott and Mr. Yukimura.

Turns out she only summoned the Nogitsune because she wanted the soldiers to feel her wrath for every life that was lost because of them. Unfornately the Nogitsune had other ideas as it possessed her lover Rhys instead of her. And just like the legend of the evil spirit said, it wreaked havoc, caused pain and suffering in ways that Dakota didn't even know was possible.

"His last words were Coup de foudre." Noshiko says as she puts another shard of sword in place, she'd been placing them the entire time she told her story. "The literal translation is "A bolt of lightning." In French, it can also mean "love at first sight." But a bolt of lightning happens to be exactly what we need right now."

"For what?" Kira asked her mother

"Excising the nogitsune from Rhys' body shattered the katana. But you can put it back together." Noshiko replies

"Why don't you just do it yourself?" Kira asked as her eyes scanned the pieces of the sword that was yet to be assembled.

"Because I'm not a thunder kitsune. Do you trust me?" Noshiko asked her daughter

"I just found out you're 900 years old. I don't think I'll ever trust you again." Kira replies

"Trust me on this." Noshiko says before reaching over and grabbing her hand, Kira spares Scott and Dakota a glance before switching her gaze back to the Katana on the desk.

Kira's hand was hovering over the Katana with the help of her mother, and before Dakota's very eyes the pieces of the sword started to emit this pale blue light throughout the room. Within a few seconds the light got increasingly brighter until it faded, then right there was an assembled Katana sitting on the desk ready for use.

Dakota was fascinated by what just happened, Kira seemed to be in awe and Scott just looked like he was seconds away from his mind exploding.

Noshiko smiled as she picked up the katana and held it towards Kira. "Go ahead. It's yours now."

Kira shakes her head, "What if I don't want it."

Noshiko pulls her arm back, "You need it." then she's tossing it to Kira who catches it in her hand like it's familiar to her, she twirls it in her grip before starring at the weapon in pure fascination, her lips parted in shock. "You see? It gives you balance. My power is yours now, Kira. If the oni can't stop Stiles, you have to. The same as I did." Noshiko turns to Scott, "And maybe enlist a wolf," She turns to Dakota, "Or two, to help you."
