"Where is your mom?" Harry asked him after a few minutes of silently driving.
"My mother got dragged away by some friends that wanted to go out to dinner, and she wasn't told that until tonight." Louis looked out the window of the car, watching the street lights.
"She thought going to dinner with friends was more important than picking up her son?" Harry snickered, almost like he couldn't believe the predicament.
Louis continued to glance out of the window in complete silence for a few moments. He then whispered. "It's fine." He almost didn't think Harry would hear him, so he was slightly surprised when he heard him say something back.
"Is it?" He asked quietly.
Louis felt his throat begin to close up. "Yes."
For the next few minutes, neither one of them said anything. Trees passed them by, as well as streetlights, and before long, a few buildings and stores came into view. Louis continued to look out the window, glancing at people walking and how happy they looked.
And tried to ignore how hurt he felt over his mother choosing to go out to dinner instead of picking him up. It wasn't that he was hurt over her going out with friends while he was in the support group, but the fact that she didn't think about how he was going to get home. That was what hurt him the most.
"Are you hungry?" Harry asked, turning a corner.
"No." Louis instantly said, shaking his head. "I can't."
"Can't what? Eat?" Harry asked. He glanced over at the passenger side, giving Louis a curious look.
"I shouldn't." Louis declined.
Harry nodded, not saying anything else. He continued driving and turned a few more corners. It wasn't until Harry was slowing down the car that he noticed he wasn't anywhere near his house. Instead, he was slowing down to get into a fast food drive thru. Louis looked over at him confused.
"I said I wasn't hungry."
Harry turned the car around until it reached into one of the lanes. "I know, I heard."
"T-Then what are you doing?" Louis asked.
Harry glanced over at him like he was crazy. He rolled down the window. "Getting food." He looked over at the menu. "What does it look like I'm doing?"
Louis doesn't say anything. Louis ignores everything going on, and looks back out of the window. He only half hears as Harry orders some food, and drives up further to pay for it. He doesn't say anything to Louis or even glance his way as grabs the food after paying for it. He then drives out of the drive thru and out of the fast food place and into a nearby empty parking lot from a store.
It is then when Louis glances over at him. He watches as Harry looks into the bag, and empties out the contents. His stomach growls as he watches Harry take out fries and a regular hamburger from the tinfoil. For a split second, he almost regrets saying he wasn't hungry. Especially when his stomach continues to softly rumble.
He assumes he is there to wait while Harry eats until he can take him home, so he goes back to looking out of the window. Something catches him out of the corner of his eye when he feels something warm in the center of his lap. He glances down to see food, and he turns his head to see another drink in the cup holder.
"I said I wasn't hungry." He says, but his stomach growls against him.
Harry snickers at that. "I can tell." He points toward the food. "Eat, and then I will take you home."
After glancing at the salted fries in all of their glory, he realizes that he doesn't need to be told twice. He quickly devours the food without second guessing it, and it isn't until he is done and has drunk half of his drink, that he comes to the realization that Harry was silently watching him.
"Not hungry, huh?"
Louis doesn't bother responding, and patiently waits while Harry finishes his food. After a few minutes, he does and gets out of the car to throw away their trash in the nearby bin. He returns afterwards, and gets back onto the road.
But before he goes to see the familiar houses and his neighborhood, he turns to glance over at Harry and speaks before his nerves get to him. He can sense that Harry knows he is looking over at him. "Can we go somewhere?"
Harry is silent for a moment, almost like he is contemplating where Louis wants to go. Hopefully, he realizes the place he wants to go is the place Harry took him too. The place where he likes to silence. And a place that Louis would rather be than stuck at home.
Harry glances over at him, and gives him a rare, soft smile. "The playground?"
In return, Louis can feel himself blushing. "Yes. The playground."
He nods, driving until they reach a red light, and turning the car around until it begins driving in the opposite direction of his house. And as they drive, Louis can't help but welcome the warming feeling of peace.
