Louis decided that he wouldn't be showing his face anymore around the support group. He had the slight worry that someone would be worried about him no longer showing up after he showed up only once, but he soon shook off the thought with the realization that no one probably paid attention to him as he barely spoke to anyone besides Harry.
So, when he arrived with his mother on her weekly grocery store trip, he thought fate or something similar to that was playing a trick on him because right by the carts collecting them, stood Harry. His tall body leaned across some of them to gather the other ones, a bored expression on his face.
Some of his curly hair was showing beneath the same beanie from the support group meeting. Louis looked around, as if waiting to see if anyone else noticed him staring at him. But nobody did, so he stood, watching Harry fix the headphones in his ears.
Next, he simply ignored the rest of his presence. With one foot going in front of the other, he focused on making his way into the store. Before he had a chance to do that, someone called out his name, and he turned to see his mother trying to catch up with him.
"Why are you walking so fast?" She huffed, fixing her jacket.
He didn't want to mention him staring at Harry, so he motioned for his mother to follow him inside. She made no movement to follow him and motioned to the carts. "We need one."
It took Louis a second to realize she was waiting for him to collect one. Once he did, he walked over to where the carts were and was in the process of grabbing one.
"Couldn't wait for me to put them all inside, could you?" A deep voice rang out behind him.
Louis settled his hands on the handle of one of the carts and turned. His eyes met with green ones, but in the light, they seemed to pierce through him. He seemed to lose his breath for a second, and it seemed that either Harry didn't care or noticed because he narrowed his eyes at Louis.
"Do you mind?" He asked impatiently.
Louis instantly released his grip on one of the carts, and moved out of the way, allowing Harry to collect that one and the others. He bunched them together and started rolling them back towards the store. He didn't even wait to see if Louis would follow him. He did after a second and met up with his mother who still stood by the entrance.
She gave Louis a small smile when she noticed him walking towards her, but a frown replaced the smile when she noticed Louis didn't have what he was supposed to have.
"Where's the cart?" She asked, her lips thinning. "I thought you were getting one."
Louis opened his mouth to say something, but a cart got thrusted into his hand before he could even mutter a word. He scrunched his eyebrows, looked up, and saw it was Harry who handed it to him. Louis gave him a smile and mumbled his thanks. He didn't get a response; which Louis wasn't even expecting. But his mother was happy and grabbed the cart. They walked inside the grocery store, his mother taking out a list she made from her purse.
"I thought we would have some soup tonight. You okay with that?" She asked. She didn't even wait for a response, and just started placing the things they would need for dinner. It was assumed she took his silence as a yes.
They were tasing the bakery section when Louis stopped to look at the bread they had out. When his mother heard him stop, she stopped as well. He turned to find her watching him.
"Can we have some bread with the soup tonight?" Louis asked hopefully. To some bread with soup seemed like nothing, but to him it was so much more.
She stared at Louis a second more and shook her head. "No. You know what bread does to you. Now come on. There are a few more things I need."
Louis nodded, lowering his head. He trailed behind her for the rest of the trip, half listening to her when she talked about changing some things they were eating in the household, so they would eat healthy. And during the entire one-sided conversation, Louis knew the healthy tips were more for him than her. And again when Louis didn't respond, his mother took it as a sign that he was on board.
Once they were in line for checkout, Louis noticed Harry bagging the items. Louis noticed how he didn't even spare him a glance. When it was their turn, Louis moved to help place some of the items in the bags, but his mother stopped him.
She clasped a hand over his elbow. "Don't worry about putting the groceries in the bags, honey. They have people for that." She pointedly looked over at Harry. "Just get the car started for me."
She handed him the keys. He sent Harry a glance and made his way to where his mother parked the car. Just as soon as he found it, and started it up, he saw his mother walking toward them with the cart. But with his mother was Harry. He didn't understand why he was there, until he noticed him putting the bags into the trunk. Because of the cold weather, Louis saw cold puffs coming out of his mouth each time he placed a bag into the cart.
By this time, his mother was already getting situated in the front of the car. When she didn't say anything about Louis getting in his seat, he began to make sure all the bags were standing up straight. He was right next to Harry, who ignored him. And all for good reason.
After Harry placed all the groceries in the car, and Louis double checked to make sure all the bags were straight, he moved back to close the trunk. He felt Harry stand behind him for a second, but he assumed he was grabbing the cart. Louis turned just in time to see Harry walking away with the cart. He turned to get in the car.
And when his mother was driving away, he lowered his arm in his lap, feeling something in his jacket. He assumed it was his phone at first, but when he felt inside it, he felt something hard but also slightly soft. And when he pulled it out, he saw some fresh bread wrapped in plastic. Almost like someone got it fresh from the bakery section. For him.
