Part Two *present day*
"Come on guys, you're gonna be late," my Aunt Jenna yelled from the bottom of the stairs. I groaned, rolling out of bed, heading down the stairs to the kitchen. "Do you guys need anything? Pens, more coffee, erasers?" she asked.
"I think we have everything under control," I asked. "Love you both, have a great first day. I wish your parents could see you," Jenna said, a little wistfully to me and my brother Jeremy.
Our parents, Jenna's sister and brother-in-law, had died last spring, in a car accident that I was also in, but survived, somehow.
"I know Aunt Jenna, I know," I said, hugging her. "Now get going before you're late," she said, practically shoving me out the door.
"Bonnie's here," I called before I closed the door, heading out to my best friend Bonnie Bennett's car. "Hey Bon," I said, slipping into the passenger seat of her car. "Hey Elena," she said.
We pulled away from my house and headed to school. "So Grams is telling me I'm psychic," Bonnie started.
"Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that," she continued. "I know crazy, but she's going on and on about it, and I'm like, put this woman in a home, already," she said.
My mind wandered off as she continued to speak, realizing we were passing the cemetery where my mom and dad were. "But then I started thinking, I predicted Obama and I predicted that Heath Ledger, and I still think Florida will break off and turn into little resort islands," she said, my eyes still looking out the window.
"Elena," she called, I looked over at her, a sheepish smile on my face. "Back in the car," she said. "I did it again, didn't I? I'm sorry Bonnie, you were telling me that..." I started before trailing off, the previous conversion lost in my memory.
"That I'm psychic now," she supplied. "Right okay," I said, laughing slightly. There was no way that Mystic Falls was going to be a hot-spot for supernatural activity, that I highly doubted existed. "Predict something then, about me," I challenged her.
She let out a breath, saying, "I see," before a bird hit our windshield, causing her to swerve a little. "What was that?" she asked. "Oh my gosh, Elena are you okay?" she asked, concerned.
"It's okay, I'm fine," I said, feeling a bit shaken up. "It was like a bird or something, it came out of nowhere," she said. "Really, I can't be freaked out by cars for the rest of my life," I said. "I predict that this year is going to be kick-ass," she said.
"And I predict that all the sad and dark times are over and you are going to be beyond happy," she continued, giving me a smile.
We pulled away from where we had stopped, heading towards the high school. We headed inside when we got there, two of our other friends waiting for us, Anna Kingston and Caroline Forbes.
"Oh my gosh Elena, how are you?" Caroline asked, walking up to us. She hugged both of us before looking at Bonnie, saying, "Is she okay?"
"You know, I can hear you Care," I said. "Whatever," she said before she walked away. "Your cousin is strange," I said to Anna. "Yeah I know," she said, looping her arm with mine as we made our way through the halls of Mystic Falls High School.
We stopped, along with Bonnie near the front office, putting our stuff in our lockers. "Who is that?" Bonnie asked, pointing to a man's figure in the office, talking with the receptionist. "New student?" I guessed.
"Well, let's hope he's hot because there is a serious lack of male real estate here," Anna said, causing us to laugh. "Well, I think he's hot," Bonnie said. "How can you tell, it's just a back?" I asked. "A very hot back," she said.
I looked at the new guy for a few more seconds before I saw Jeremy walk into the guy's bathroom, looking stoned already.
Let's just say, after our parents' death, he started to spiral into drugs and sex, which our parents would have disapproved of. "I'll get him," I said. I walked to the bathroom, seeing Jeremy putting eye-drops in.
"The first day of school and you're already high?" I asked. "Relax, I'm not actually high," Jeremy said.
"You sure look like you are," I said, snarkily. "Relax sis, I got this," he said, washing his hands before storming out of the bathroom.
I stayed in the bathroom for a few more seconds, getting looks from some of the guys that were there. I walked out of the bathroom, bumping into the mystery guy on the way out.
"Uh, pardon me, isn't this the men's room?" the mystery guy asked. "Yes, um, I was just, I was just, um, it's a long story," I said. "I should get going," I continued, walking towards Anna and Bonnie. "Let's get to history,"
I sat down in a seat, Anna on one side and Bonnie on the other, mystery guy in the back. My phone dinned, signaling I had a text. I looked down, seeing that Bonnie had texted me and I showed Anna the screen.
Bonnie: told you he was hot, my physic powers are real
I just shook my head and laughed. They have a witchy thing in common, both claim to be physic but I highly doubt that. There is no supernatural in Mystic Falls.

After school, I walked the cemetery with my diary, writing by my parents gravestone. "I made it through the day. I must have said 'I'm fine, thanks' at least 37 times and I didn't mean it once," I said aloud.
"But no one noticed," I continued, looking at my parents' grave. It wasn't supposed to be like this. "When someone asks 'how are you?' they really don't want an answer." I said. A crow landed on top of the headstone, looking at me curiously.
"Okay, hi bird," I said. "Not creepy at all," I muttered, as a weird fog rolled in. Someone was watching me from the shadows. I got my stuff, running through the cemetery and to the woods behind. I slipped, crying out in pain before I got up and continued to run.
"Are you okay?" the mystery guy from school asked. "Were you following me?" I asked. "No, I uh I saw you fall," he said.
"And you were just hanging out in the cemetery," I said, unimpressed. "I'm visiting family here," he said. "Oh wow, tactless. I'm sorry. It's the fog, making me foggy and then there was this bird and it was all very Hitchcock for a second. That is the bird movie, isn't it? Hitchcock?" I asked, rambling on. "I'm Elena," I said, giving him a small smile.
"I'm Stefan," the guy said, smiling back at me. "I know we have history together," I said, giving him a smile.
"And English and French," he said, matching my smile. "Right," I said. He reached towards my hair, picking something out of it. "Thanks," I said.
"Nice ring," I said, looking down at his fingers, an elaborate ring on his finger. "Thanks, it's a family ring. Kinda stuck with it. It's weird huh?" he said. "No, no. I mean there are rings and then there is that," I said, laughing.
"Did you hurt yourself?" he asked. "Hmm?" I asked. "Did you hurt yourself?" he repeated, "Oh uh, I don't know," I asked, sticking my leg up on a log. I rolled up my jeans, finding a cut there. "Would you look at that? That is not pretty," I said, Stefan's back turning to me. "You should go... take care of that," he said. I turned, finding that he had already gone. "Weird," I muttered to myself, walking home.
This whole day had been strange. First the bird this morning, then meeting Stefan, and now this weird encounter. And I had a feeling from now on, everything was going to be strange.
