MAX MILLER

"How do I look?" she asked.

I wasn't paying attention at all until she came straight to me put her face an inch away from me. She scrutinized. "Are you even here?"

"Sorry, what?" I released my cross hands and sat straight.

She gave me that annoyed look that would never surprise me after knowing her very well.

"You have serious problems. You really need a therapist," she said pulling herself back and crossed her hands against her chest, concerned.

"A therapist, who?" I literally shouted.

She ignored me and sighed. She checked the temperate with her bare hands on my forehead and said, "Oh, dear your burning."

"No, I'm not. I feel like I'm now in Antarctica." I protested.

"Exactly!"

"Chloe, I told you I'm okay. Then where are you taking me?" I shouted as she dragged me to her car.

"To your house. I really want to see your house," she said sarcastically. She doesn't miss the chance to see my house at least once.

I'm the one who is not very comfortable letting people into my house. That makes me feel like someone snatching my privacy from me. I don't think I'll let her in. I know she's my girlfriend but still, I'm not comfortable letting her in either. It's not like I don't trust her, it's more like I don't like to show off my money to the girls I was dating, make them more comfortable with my money more than with me like a gold digger. I'm not doing the same mistake as my father once did and abandoning mom and his children. I won't be like him not even in my worst nightmares.

He was the only reason I hate myself. The fear that I've been facing every morning seeing my scars on my face and hiding it with my beast mask and pretending I'm one.

"No"

"Excuse me," she said.

"I said no, Chloe. I'm fine and let me be. I am going to my house and you, yours." I finally said.

"I can at least drop you if you don't mind." she insisted.

"I mind. If you can move a little I'll take your leave." I literally groaned and walked to my motorcycle and rode to my house. On the way to my house, I saw Chloe following me, so I took some shortcuts, small streets where a car can't even enter. And finally, I was home.

I threw my jacket on the couch in my living room on my way to the stairs.

While I was in the shower I heard my phone ringing in my room. I closed the tap, took a towel from the hanger, and tied it around my waist. I placed the phone on my ear as the water dripping from my head to my chest, waist. "Hello," I said.

"Max, this is me." Sounded like Alexa was in trouble. "Max, I just rolled myself in a situation. I need your help. Could you please come to the Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital?" she was shivering. But for what? I couldn't say.

"Are you okay? Are you got yourself into an accident and you want me to sign for your insurance paper or what?"

"No, this is Arya. She got hit by a drunken man on her head and now she's in the hospital. She lost a lot of blood. And we don't know what to do and so please help us."

"We?"

"Akash was so guilty and telling himself that he was the reason if he didn't take her to that party this would never happen in the first place," she said, sobbing.

Without any other word I changed into the first dress I saw and rode to the hospital where I saw Akash was standing in the lobby, arms crossed, eyes on the floor. I was looking for Alexa but she was nowhere to be found.

I walked to Akash with two minded, should I go and comfort him or should I confront him? Cause I was angry when I first heard about Arya in a hospital bed and second the reason now she was in that bed was him. I was planning to walk to him and punch his nose to bleed.

But when he saw me he just stood there and stared into my eyes. I stared back expecting him to show some disgusted face to me. And I was surprised when his face falls and tears prickled in his eyes.

Once we were an arm away from each other he hugged me as he sobbed.

I couldn't say anything. But, "What the doctor said?" I asked.

He pulled himself from me, wiping his tears he said, "She's probably going to fine and within a week or so they'll remove the stitch and she'll be back to normal. But..."

"What?" I felt my voice raised.

"The scar mark, it'll take more than six months to disappear."

"That's not the problem. All I really want her is alive. Thank god. Where's Alexa?" I asked.

"Arya needed blood so she's transfusing her blood," he said.

I nodded.

"How this happened?" I don't know my voice sounded angry until Akash who's looking somewhere around the lobby suddenly fixed his gaze on me.

"I took her to one of the parties as my fake... girlfriend. After the party while we were waiting for the uber, a gang of men hopped out of their car and started following us. She told me to run, and when I turned to see her she was on the road, blood was flooding everywhere. And I was... afraid that I'd lose her." He wiped his tears with the back of her hand.

"Have you seen any of those men?"

"No, we were in a run."

Then a few minutes later a doctor came out of the Arya's room and said, "She's awake. If you want to talk to her? One person at a time."

I saw Akash took a step forward but I was already inside. I closed the door behind as I heard Alexa saying, "What just happened?"
