"Elena, wake up," she felt a small shake of her shoulder and she shot her eyes open.

"Jeremy?"

What was he doing in her room so early?

"Hey, it's-it's the day. You should probably get up."

Oh god, it was funeral day.

Of course, Damon's body was desinigrated in the accident so there wasn't a proper funeral for him.

Why were they having a funeral? If Bonnie made it out, shouldn't Damon have?

"Why didn't you make it out, Damon?"

Those were the first words she asked when she called him that morning.

"I have spent all of these phone calls and these past few weeks wondering why you didn't make it out. You can't be dead, Damon. I miss you so much, just please..let me know you're still alive."

She began to quietly sob into her hands, and tried to stop the tears.

"Elena, are you ready?" Jeremy called from the opposite side of the bathroom door.

"Yeah, just, uh-give me a minute."

The sobs flowed from her eyes in smaller increments, and she tried to prevent from making a noise.

Jeremy disregarded what she said and walked into the room, anyways.

"Elena," he whispered, noticing her upset.

"I said give me a minute," she wiped the tears that were now falling uncontrollably from her chocolate brown eyes.

Jeremy looked at Elena, and wanted to help her. He had never wanted to help her more in his life.

He sat down next to her and put a hand on her back.

"Look, Elena. I'm not as good at these things as you are, okay? But Damon was..not as big as a dick as he used to be, and I am so sorry that you lost him. For now, we are going to have a proper funeral but as soon as it's over, I'm here for you. If you want to try and bring him back, I will help, if you want to leave it alone, then I will too," he sighed, "I just want you happy."

Elena couldn't keep her sobs in now as the words stung right through her heart.

"Jeremy, I..can't do this."

He nodded, "I know, okay? I know exactly how you're feeling but you have to, Damon would want you to."

Elena couldn't agree more, Damon would want her to.

"Thank you, Jeremy. We'll discuss my plans after the," she clears her throat, "funeral."

Elena looked in the mirror and picked her phone up off the side table.

"Here I am, standing in front of this stupid mirror in a black dress with a black veil over my head." She chuckles a little.

"I feel like a widow with this thing. But, I know I have to wear it."

She studied herself in the mirror, she was 10 pounds too thin, and the bags under her eyes were so bad you could write a book called 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and it would solemnly be based on the bags under her eyes.

"I am a train wreck. I'm going to give you one chance, Damon. Prove to me you're not dead or these calls end here. No more of my voice and my undying love for you. All gone. I just..can't deal with the fact that you're dead."

She hangs up, sets the phone down and take a deep breath. She slowly opens her door and looks down the steps to see Jeremy, Stefan, Ric, Bonnie, Caroline, Tyler and Matt.

When her face hits Bonnie, the first tear falls from her eye. She loves Bonnie more than anything, but all she can see when she looks at her is Damon.

"Let's go," Elena mutters, walking down the steps.

"Damon was a successful, love struck, ladies man. We all loved him deeply even though he could be a pain. He sure has changed everybody's life in one way or another.

Elena focused on the words Stefan was saying and chuckled a little. Damon could be a pain. Before Elena knew it, she was next up for a speech.

Her legs were jello as she stepped out of the pew and took a deep breath, all eyes on her. She took the veil off her head and set it in the chair next to the podium.

"Hi, uhm, I'm Elena Gilbert, I was Damon's girlfriend."

She couldn't look at everyone, so she decided on a tear in the wood on the podium.

"Before Damon died, he told me that he would find a way back to me, that he was always would. Unfortunately, he didn't this time. Facing that was the hardest thing I've had to do. He was the love of my life. He changed everything for me and I will always miss him."

She took her seat and the sobs began to flow from her eyes and she didn't stop them. Thankfully, she had people there to comfort her but she only wanted Damon.

And she knew she could never have him back.
