First chapter is kind of slow to set the scene and events leading up to his appearance. It picks up a lot in the following chapters.
After a long day, you were excited to get home. Your feet ached from standing since the early hours of the morning and your back seemed to be in agreement with them. You had attended a grad party for a collage friend. You hadn't drank too much but you were buzzed.
Fiddling with the lock and your many keys for a minute, lost in the haze of the day, you hear a click. With that the door opened and you walked though, tossing you keys onto the nearest counter; knowing full well that they slid out of sight and you would have trouble grinding them come morning.
I should really get a bowl. Maybe a hook. You thought. Your place wasn't a mess but it certainly wasn't clean, making it hard to find things like keys when you're in a rush.
Meow....meow..meooooow the cat found you. She was hungry. You tossed some food in her bowl and proceeded to your livingroom, slumping on the couch and turing the TV on.
It was easy to get lost in the world of anime, your favorite genre. It gave you a sense of adventure and pure serotonin, making any day a little better while you are watching it. Finally you found the total you had been watching, Attack on Titan. You hit play, you were halfway though an episode last night. You debated starting it over.. the beginning of this one was pretty boring.. you thought as you hit play where you left off, sinking into your couch even more.
When the episode came to an end you went to make some popcorn while the show was transitioning to the next episode. After not hearing the theme for some time you walked back into the room with your popcorn, only to stop dead in your tracks.
"What the hell.." you vocalized. The flatscreen was bright, and so clear. You knew it was HD but it looked so real. It was a field, very grassy with hills and a stunning blue sky with soft fluffy clouds. The light coming from the TV seemed to shine into the room as if you were looking through a window. And the sounds.. birds, like they were right there with you.
You stood, frozen, trying to process what you were seeing. But before your brain could catch up, or come up with a realistic explanation, you saw something impossible.
A very, very large arm reached though. Not human sized, bigger, but human looking. This arm started reaching around, at this point you couldn't see what was on the other side of the arm. And the noise coming from it low, almost feral grunts. You gulped and stepped back. You were always good with weird things. Go with the flow was your motto but this was a lot.
As you stepped backward out of the room, a hissing sound emerged from the hole, you rubbed your eyes with your free hand. Along side the hissing/whistling noise, something that looked like a spear shot out at an amazing speed, harpooning itself in your ceiling.
Almost immediately after you saw someone shoot through in a spiral, slicing the arm into pieces the dropped to your floor followed by lots of foul smelling blood. It was a blur of green, beige, black and red; followed by a loud crash and a dull thud.
You have seen The Ring. This is looking bad.
This person hit your ceiling. And they hit it hard. You looked at the body face down on the floor and the blood dripping from the, now black, television. You looked down , there was popcorn on the floor mixed with shattered glass. You dropped your bowl.
You were now very aware of your breathing. It was short and fast. You turned on your heels and walked out of the from into your kitchen, still hyperventilating, and splashed some water into your face. Psychosis? You thought. Did someone drug my drink?? You practically ran to lock your door. If your drink was drugged you were probably followed home.
After you heard the sound of the front door locking you took a deep breath to steady yourself. With that and your mini mental collapse, you turned your attention to the livingroom doorway. Looking around frantically, you needed a weapon. BROOM! You though as you grabbed the flimsy dollar store broom of yours. Now armed, you slowly approached the darkened doorway.
"Not real... Nope.. not real. Must be drugs.. or mental illness.." you whisper-muttered to yourself. Though what happened wasn't scary per-say, it still scared you. It looked so real.
Two more feet and you could peek into the living room... One more foot.... Half a foot... Your 23 year old self is almost peeing her pants. Your mind is having trouble comprehending this situation.
You see it. The Crimson blood, popcorn, broken glass and in the corner a human slumped face down also bleeding from a head lac. They must have been knocked out by the wall or a shelf.
Ever so slowly you crept close, broom at the ready. No reaction. Are they dead? That's when you notice the symbol on the moss green cloak. This is impossible..
The Scouts.
